pleased to announce that they have attained their goal of 800 boxes sold brown owl mrs pat renshaw expressed her appreciation to the community for sup porting this campaign century city a benefit to area dear mr thomas the letter from l d almack rr 2 claremont which appeared in your last week edition was filled with inaccuracies which call for correction a proposal was made to the township of uxbridge by cen tury city which would assure a proper balance of industrial and residential assessment the proposal provided that residential develop ment would only be approved by the township after an appropriate amount of industrial assessment was achieved it was a lack of an agreement such as this for the bay ridges development that caused the dif ficulties in pickering township century city showed they could attract industry ccm announced their move to century city almost two years ago and are not located in the township today providing hundreds of jobs for residents of our area as a result of the stalling tactics of the township of ux bridge in dealing with their application the century city site has excellent facilities for attracting both industry and people in need of housing as i recall reading in your paper the water supply is abundant with proven sources to accomodate 15000 people with only a third of the water exploration program completed both cn and cpr tracks are located in the im mediate vicinity and with uxbridge township having an abundant gravel supply raw materials for building products should be considerably less expensive as a result of savings in haulage fees mr almack is certainly illinformed if he meant that the land bought for cen tury city is ontarios best agricultural land it is marginal farm land at best whereas the location further to the south for new cities as shown in the torontocentred region plan would use up excellent farm land the century city- plan for sewage treatment calls for the use of a fine spray irrigation system which makes use of the growth promoting agents in the treated residue while replenishing the ground water supply as i understand the system there will be no discharge into duffins creek or lake ontario there will be no pollution we have been told that the century city plan was put before the government before any land was bought and that the plans were revised to con form with the governments policy which existed at the time the govern ment apparently changed its policies in may of 1970 when it brought out its torontocentred re gion plan and in my opinion now has an obligation to resolve p the problems created by this change in policy bernard burnell r r 1 claremont resigns mrs margaret bowser an office employee with the former township of whitchurch for seven years and now
