mabel cross follows stroke death came to mrs mabel cross of church st at noon on saturday aug 11th in the brierbush hospi tal to which she had been removed following a stroke at 8 oclock that morning the deceased had been about as usual that week and her sudden passing was a shock to her many friends she had made her home with mrs s m warriner on church street for years but had not enjoyed good health for some two years born at ballantrae 71 years ago the deceased was the daughter of mr and mrs samuel dorley she was twice married her first hus band being archie hill surviving this marriage are three sons harold of nipawin sask douglas of vancouver and charles of winnipeg her second husband was cecil cross the late mrs cross had been a resident of stouffviue for the past ten years but had previously made her home in markham and lim erick also most of her life had been spent in western canada she had been a member of the eastern star lodge and was identified with the united church full swing the fish and wildlife division of the dept of lands and forests an nounces the department has for several years been removing smallmouth black bass from waters in the pro vince where these are exceptional ly abundant but slow growing and transporting them to waters where angling has shown a low yield at present hatchery personnel are working in lakes in eastern ontario where over population of bass has been determined and are removing surplus fish to suitable adjacent water restocking the bass being taken from these overpopulated waters average 8 to 9 inches just under the legal size and their growth is slow due part ly to an inadequate food supply when introduced into other suit able waters where the fish popu lation is less congested their deve lopment is more rapid
