community club has taken the trouble to post signs on the property at the corner of the townline and the tenth asking picnickers to refrain from parking in that area last week trees were cleared skirting the field so they would be completely visible to wouldbe parkers over the week end however several cars were parked within inches of the trees and some had run right over them it is hard to understand what possesses visitors who drive 25 or 30 miles to enjoy our countryside to knowingly ignore our signs and destroy the com munity property the signs are our only authority the rest is up to us it is dur property and our project it would be a good idea to make it our business if we happen to see cars destroying the trees to ask these people to park elsewhere the offenders are not park visitors but picnickers who swim below the bridge and camp outside the park the 30mile limit signs have also been posted in the village but these too seem to hold little authority most travellers who slow down passing the store area do not seem to realize that the people of cedar grove live in the surrounding countryside as well last sunday there was an acci dent not far from the park on the town line noone but the drivers themselves know why it happened or who was to blame but we can not help wondering if there would have been an accident had a little less speed and a little more caution been taken it is a com mon occurrence these days to see far too many rabbits cats squir rels and other small animals lying on the road killed by some motorist who could not or did not stop to give them time to cross the road dogs and children are just as unpredictable and just as blind ed by bright headlights country roads are not highways nor are they intended for speed records the signs have caused some improvement but local cars and births grove mr and mrs walter grove markham rr2 an nounce the birth of their daugh ter linda on monday july 16 1951 at mount sinai hospital toronto turner brierbush hospital stouffville delivery trucks whose drivers know the roads are still not slow ing down enough to have their vehicles under control in case of a sudden stop what can we do about it we have not the equip ment to tell how fast car is going nor the authority to fine a speed ing driver but we know how fast is too fast and we have the authority to report such a driver when a car is reported by us more than once to the markham township police they will deal with the owners if by reporting our point is brought to the atten tion of the authorities they may realize how serious we are about avoiding accidents and the heart breaking loss of children and animals in our community this too is up to us start now before the accident happens that involves you your child or your pet the markham township police have promised to patrol this area over the weekend when the traffic to and from the park is heaviest the clendennans and mr arthur reesor were at hawk lake over the weekend
