weeks ago thieves walked off with over 100 worth of shingles and lumber from the home of mr g hamcly who is in the process of building a new home on the gth concession of markham 1w miles north of unionville on sunday night or early monday morning thieves towed the new gravel truck own ed by mr george hoover of north markham to some distant point and it was some time before con stable wideman was able to locate the vehicle which was found on the side of the road on the 5th concession which is the townline between vaughan and king town ships no damage had been done to the truck and police were un able to give a motive for the preliminary requests for four new subdivisions in markham township were turned down last week by the county planning board according to a communica tion tabled at the regular meeting of township council on monday evening the new divisions the letter stated were not in the best interests of the municipality and so permission was not granted council had previously filed the customary questionnaire from the board concerning the various aspects of the proposed sub divisions as to services required and those already provided markham council themselves took the stand some time ago that additional subdivisions were not desireable in the municipality under the existing high cost of services and education and have stated their position quite empha tically on more than one occasion that agents who contemplated any further division of farm land into subdivision areas would find it extremely difficult a deputation appeared before coilncil concerning the request of a couple of weeks ago to prohibit the north yonge st railway from turning buses on streets in high land park subdivision were trying to do something to stop them if the people dont want them stated reeve tim bers we could have had them stopped the day we interviewed the manager but what about the other people on the route the railway was highhanded in coming in there in the first place commented one of the dele gates if they have to purchase land for a loop you might turn your profit into a deficit should all the four municipalities involved take the same attitude said councillor w l clarke the delegation agreed to leave the matter with reeve timbers with the understanding that a meeting would be held shortly of the four municipalities concerned with the system an offer was accepted from frank roberts for the use of his garage for the township graders for either storage or repair work temporarily until the township can have a new garage erected the clerk was instructed to send a letter to mr roberts expressing councils appreciation for this offer a petition was filed for local improvement on the road describ ed as the easterly limit of rich mond hill and easterly limit of lot is with road to be constructed along the centre of lot 48 council agreed that township engineer should make preliminary survey and estimate on the work robbery on the same night how ever over 40 bundles of shingles were stolen from the new home of mr bill ilet in mount joy police however are lacking any definite clues to the robberies although it could be possible that the lumber robberies and the theft of the new truck could all be linked to one gang so far the building material has not been located altona glen major mr and mrs r holden and dougie mr grant armstrong of
