sunderland 10 volunteer work ers from the veterans land act department built a new- trench silo which if proven successful following thorough practical test on june 15 will become standard equipment for the 10000 or so veterans under vla and if the whole idea catches on the rural landscape of ontario will see a big change with gradual dis appearance of the round tower like silo that features many farms today into the ground the digging bee was the result of a decision by officials to try out this newtype trench silo themselves following con- traversy which had arisen as to pros and cons of a silo which is built underground and not overhead pickering employees pension plan approved a pension plan for municipal employees the first to be instituted by any municipality in this area lias been approved by pickering township council and will become operative on july 1st the plan provides for a five percent contri bution by the township with a like amount being contributed by the employee employees on the police force and women will be eligible for the pension at sixty other employees at 05 the maximum rate to be drawn is 1200 per year the rate being determined by the amount an employee has paid in the new scheme will allow the township to apply for the munici pal grant of 25 for police pur poses the cost of this department in pickering this year is estimated at
