civil defense co ordinator the school which will be operat ed by the ontario governments civil defense office opens in tor onto on june 12 and will run for three weeks candidates for training as instructors of wardens nominated by the civil defense coordinator for toronto and york will attend the school two nights a week and will receive an extensive course in all aspects of civil defense emer gency action col welsh said the school is the beginning of a provincewide train ing program which will give all important municipalities in ontario the necessary trained wardens who ire the basis of effective civil defense organizations the toronto school will be an experiment and when the first course is over we will have a pretty good idea of what is necessary to train our people for possible enemy air attack col welsh said trained instructors from the ontario civil defense office staff the fire marshals office toronto police department and ontario government departments will give lectures and demonstrations in civil defense organization in the community fire fighting emer gency action to meet atomic biolo gical and chemical warfare traffic control and wardens duties we have now a large number of highly trained instructors in ontario col welsh said and men who will give lectures have been trained in the most uptodate schools in canada and the united states the first school will be conducted in the toronto police department training school 119 college st the first group of students will be civilians representing the 12 police divisions in toronto selected by the chief constables headquarters staff those who complete the ontario course are then qualified to carry on training in their local areas all necessary equipment and instruction staff for the school will be provided by the ontario govern ment with the federal government providing necessary equipment for lire and gas training this school will mark the real beginning of our civil defense training in ontario now that most of the important municipalities have completed their committee organization col welsh said through the efforts of air vice marshal lawrence director of civil defense for toronto and york arid toronto chief constable john chisholm this school will pioneer the way to allout preparation by our people which will strengthen our national defense and reduce civil casualties in the
