may 24th tournament which has always been a big attraction in the past years as yet it is not known what teams will comprise the opposition al though the powerful waterdown squad which defeated the locals last year is being sought for the pieseason contest the game between brantford burtols sr 15 champions and st michaels majors which was to be played in brantford last week was ealied off because the small ice surface of the rrantford arena didnt appeal to the st mikes squad for a team which has play ed the majority of its games on large ice surfaces ail season as the irish have the smaller arena would no doubt be a handicap to them norm stunden brilliant goal- tender for the marham seniors was voted unanimously by his fellow players as the one and only choice for the oha most are grouped in the lakeshore lea gue with two sections as follows stouffville lindsay little britain and oshawa and in the second section oshawa bowmanville port hope and cotfourg oshawa clubs are a clubs all others are b category f twp softball league organized this week with the ball diamonds around the various communities drying up in a hurry the township softball league is holding its organization meeting this week there will be two teams missing from the six team group although it is expec ted that two more are gbing to enter to fill the gap cedar grove who found the going somewhat ex pensive last season decided to drop out and agincourt have decided to enter their team in the scarboro league this team will be missed as it was a constant threat last year and put up a good fight in the playoffs the two new entries will probably come from claremont and thornhill the thornhill crew made their first showing last sea- son in the first round of the oasa finals and although defeated by buttonville they have many poten tial players and it will be interest ing to see how they show up with the other teams in the group the other four entries will be button ville peaches unionville and markham the township softball league will hold its organization meeting on thursday night of this week commencing at 9 pm at the high way inn on no7 unionville peaches ac defeated in fifth game of thl semifinals goalie jeorgo timbers sensational peaches ac after a long and successful season of hockey were forced to hing up their skates on thursday night as they went down to defeat at the hands of toronto monarchs in the local arena the loss came after live games between the two clubs in which each team had gained a win and a tie in case the fifth game had ended in a tie it was to be completed as the schedule was dragging on too far peaches ac took the first game of the five game series 10 on a late tally by neil brown the second contest played in ravina gardens ended in a 11 deadlock with danny smith banging in the equalizer near the end of the game the third meeting was won by monarchs 10 and although the thl had the next game scheduled for sunday the locals refused to play it the monarchs then had the choie of rinks and they wished to play it at dixie which was their home arena during the regular season the locals were badly outplayed m the first half and but for sensation al work of george timbers in the nets the score would have been in the double figures goalie timber pulled off some almost impossible saves as he caught and kicked o rubber from all sides and angu spectators agreed that it was one of the best exhibitions of goal keep ing they had witnessed all season with but a minute and fifteen sec onds remaining in the game coach warriner pulled timbers from the cage and as the puck was dropped m grove slipped the rubber to d smith standing in front of the net and the game was tied lip the locals continued to press and on two occasions d thomas broke through in the clear but failed to score the fifth and final game was the fastest game of the series and al though the visitors notched three tallies in the early stages the locals kept fighting but couldnt find the range late in the game the mon archs addedanother but with only a couple of minutes to go d smith rolled the rubber into the cage to break the goose egg the winners held out and went off the ice with the allimportant victory under their belts it has been a good seas on for the local seventh concession club which entered the league in order to play hockey and never ex pected to hit the semifinals in tlv playoffs the locals defeated four teams and out of a total of sixtee i games they lost only three murray lewis was the top scorer during the season with eighteen goals while murray grove was second with fourteen don thomas ed mason and dennv smith followed in that order the locals receive crests from the thl for being group champions much credit goes to jack warriner who stuck by the club all season and brought the club from just a lotof willing play ers to a group which came close to capturing the championship intermediates may
