victim stouffville nursing student aids teenager struck by bus kevin hennings a main concern is to finish high school and live life to the fullest byjoefantauzzi staff writer melissa pim just happened to be there ms pim 29 of stouffville was the first to administer first aid to a teenager struck by a bus monday afternoon while cross ing hwy 7 in markham the 17yearold woman was crossing hwy 7 at albert street around 320 pm when she was struck by a short laidlaw school bus turning from albert on to hwy 7 the rear wheels of the bus ran over her legs york regional police sgt courtney chang said at the scene ms pim had been stopped in her van with her children at cosburn road and hwy 7 east of main street when she saw the drivers side of the bus strike the young woman it literally happened 10 feet away from me she said the teenagers companion had a cellphone and called 9- 11 ms pim a nursing student encouraged the young woman to stay still and not to move she was in a lot of pain ms pim said adding the woman was crying and bloodied she was very scared vvithin minutes emergency responders arrived aclminister- ing professional first aid and blocking traffic in the area the young womans father also arrived ms pim said i said this is a miracle the young woman was taken to hospital with non lifethreat ening injuries im just glad i could help ms pim said ms pim noted she saw the bus driver reach for her radio immediately after the collision the intersection was closed while police investigated the 59yearold female bus driver is charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian ryan
