to a york region troupe powered by provincial cash motus o dance theatre in stouffville has received a grant frorrf the ontario arts founda- tionto get students involved in dance theatre members from the company are working with newmarkets huron heights secondary school and markhams aldergrove and william armstrong public schools for the next few weeks on holiday productions said chris madsen director of fundraising at the company from what i have heard the kids are loving it he said its something different than what they typically do in the class room from what i have heard the kids are armstrong plans to dovetail the dance theatre pieces stu dents are learning and creating into its annual christmas con cert performed at markham dis trict high school its like the buzz around gym class when the theatre instruc tors come in to work with the students principal edward goldring said they are learning different ways to express them selves its been great students are being taught how to use movement to tell a story he explained other skills such as team work brainstorming and classi cal dance movements are being taught during the 40minute ses sions weve learned how to stick our elbows out and pretend we are being pulled by it the nose and ear too grade 4 student scott wyatt said we also learned what levels are the first one is close to the ground scott has his eye on playing tiny tim in the christmas pro duction he thinks the character is cool he admits to getting excited whenit is time for dance theatre class and so do his classmates i feel like im a good dancer he added i want to be an actor when i get older thats my goal an actor who has played scrooge visited the classroom to show students about the part and a bit of miming he was phenomenal scott said its really fun some of the students will be invited to participate in modus os production of charles dick ens a christmas carol that production is dec 16 at markham theatre for perform ing arts with show
