warmweather week across this section of semirural ontario few could compete with mondays tourney at sleepy hollow golf and country club there have been larger fields big ger prize tables and more mammoth cheques written to charity none had this much heart officially it was the second annual tourney of bodysmith international a richmond hill gym known for its work with young highend hockey players from stouffville including bobby hughes and michael del zotto and the rest of york region the theme was golf for cancer in the name of the late jack burrows he of farmer jacks garden centres fame and kevin lord who played jr a hockey for the stouffville spirit and newmarket hurricanes jack and kevin both succumbed to cancer in the last three years friends and family of both were out in large numbers i wondered whether jack and kevin ever met as i prepared to emcee the postgame banquet gen erations apart they could both light up a room with their smiles and kind wordskevin was just out of his teens jack a grandpa now they are drawing people together to fight the dreaded disease they couldnt defeat the common thread was jacks middle son ken who signed kevin to play for the spirit when he was general manager here now gm with the arch rival collin- gwood blues ken lured former spir it strength and conditioning coach randy smith to join him this season randy through his gym started the tourney a year ago in kevins memory farmer jacks name was added this year fittingly jim mason is editor of the sun- tribune letters policy the suntribune welcomes your letters all
