thats why stu dents at ballantrae public school are trying to raise 10000 that money will enable two rooms to be built in the african school which has 12 classrooms and 1000 students around 4000 is needed to build a room and 1000 to stockit with desks chairs and supplies faces hifb representatives from ballantrae public and the church will be travelling to tanzania this summer to help build the new classrooms as well as raising funds principal rob reid decided to have his school twin with the lugala school so the youngsters on both continents can learn more about each others lives we wanted a more personal rela tionship with the school mr reid said his school is in partnership with unionvilles st philips on the hill anglican church some parishioners have been to lugala to help provide wells and food for residents representatives from ballantrae public and the church will travel to tanzania this summer to help build the classrooms ballantrae students learned about their lugalan counterparts at an assembly last fall the partnership is part of the schools character matters program students from grades 1 to 8 are divid ed into teams each personifying a character trait including courage empathy and honesty the teams have been discussing ways they can learn more about the lives of youngsters in lugala theyll be asking the lugala students for school pictures what their favourite games are and about their daily timetable ballantrae students would like to create a video oftheir school tell their african counterparts about snow and winter games and exchange keep sakes in the meantime tshirts with the message friends of lugala are being sold at the school and the fundraising drive will culminate in the may 9 lugala gala where students will per form african music partnership with lugala a fundraising gala will be held may 9 the ballantrae school is also putting together a lugala scrap- book to be distributed to all its families the school has been approaching
