ering later this year springvale baptist church will become the fulltime home in 2008 churches pave way to schools new location by hannelore volpe staff writer after nearly 26 years stouf fville christian school is finally getting a place of its own thanks to cooperation from two local churches the school has been at its rural location in north pickering east of stouffville since 1981 where all classrooms are in portables two moves are scheduled for the school which currently has 57 students but now has the opportunity to welcome more while the permanent home for the school will be springvale baptist church its first move slated for september is to eastridge evangelical mission ary church on tenth line near the stouffville country market funoraising time this will give the school time to raise the estimated 300000 to 400000 needed to build part of springvales addition which is still under construc tion on the church property at stouffville and kennedy roads the school will be on the second floor of the new addi tion between the new double- sized gymnasium and new sanctuary as well as more class rooms and other space the school will have more green space for its students we are eventually hoping to own our own building on that property principal jake vriend said the stouffville christian schools aim is to begin its 2008 academic year in springvale but in the meantime the school will have five classrooms in eastridge as well as other rooms the space can still be used by the church during evenings and weekends negotiations with the school and the two churches have been ongoing for some time mr vriend said board chairperson russ whitehead was instrumental in the negotiations this is a major milestone in the history of our school mr yriend said we are excited about the fact that we are mov ing and that both churches were among the founding churches of stouffville christian school in 1981 44 elementary school children were taught at the school over the years more stu dents came pushing the school population to almost 300 ele mentary and high school stu dents that number has dwin dled with students still coming from stouffville markham and uxbridge biblefocused the school offers a wide variety of academic programs based on biblefocused teach ing which exceed the demands of the ontario ministry of edu cation the schools students support a guatemalen child as well as local food drives and give musical and dramatics per formances throughout the region theres an extensive physical education component with sports as soccer volleyball crosscountry track and field swimming and softball a hock ey team has been added to the sports menu the school was one of 52 taking part in the christian schools science fair this week for more
