rural route york region problems linked to your mail delivery are about to be discussed in the house of commons a motion addressing rural delivery concerns stemming from the newmar ket post office which affect routes 1 2 and 3 and kettleby and include north ern whitchurchstouffville have drawn the attention of the federal government by oak ridgesmarkham mp lui temelkovski this past winter hundreds of local rural residents experienced changes to the way mail was being delivered for many walking down the driveway to fetch the mail was no longer an option instead they had to get their mail from one of 90 community mail boxes spread throughout the area for some it means a sixkilometre drive this has become a frustrating expe rience for some of my rural con stituents mr temelkovski said now this issue will be brought to the atten tion of the house of commons where we can address it in a constructive way the motion will come up to debate in june and then will be further debated in the fall mr temelkovski said problems came up when mail carri ers at a newmarket postal station com plained driving country roads was becoming too dangerous the carriers filed a formal complaint stating they couldnt pull their cars far enough off the road to be safe from passing traffic while sliding mail into traditional postmounted boxes human resources development canada agreed with the carriers which led to the community boxes the federal government is however appealing the decision while mr temelkovski is pleased the government launched the appeal hes asking other measures be taken in the meantime putting steering wheels on the oppo site side of mail delivery vehicles and adding cautionary lights could be exam ined he suggested the regional municipality of york warden avenue yr
