replaced the career at 29 36 hours before giving birth to her second child a plane crash claimed the life of her broth errori ten years later i began to say goodbye she recounts ron was my only sibling but i didnt have time to grieve i missed the visitation and the funeral the i- sharing of experience through talk and touch that would have helped me begin to heal- her time was filled with caring for a new baby and another 17- monthold child helping her par ents cope and supporting her hus band who assumed her brothers business there was no time for me she said her brothers death was stored in an emotional attic along with other muffled anguish as a young girl her beloved grandfather died a cousin was killed in combat another taken prisoner of war a family friend was killed in a practice maneuvre at 17 a dear friend died in a motorcy cle accident although it was acknowledged that i might have troublesome feel- zings about these eventsmy family- did not give me the room and sup- port to feel and express my feel ings i did know i needed to feel so much more so i shut down my feelings and just carried on the opening of her emotional life came through her desire to be a good parent she says my early traumas had begun to reveal themselves in telling moments with my children ms berger recalls we are to our detriment emotional pack rats unable or unwilling to
