quiet offseason for spirit front office burrows makes two trades starkman joins front office staff jswsm bymikehayakawa staff writer the summer months are sup posed to be a time when hockey teams cease operations to take a well deserved vacation but for the stouffville spirit it hasnt exactly beenthat way the provincial junior a hockey league club announced tuesday it made two transactions the first involved the trading of forward carson devine to the newmarket hurricanes for for ward joel sheppard the other- had defehceman jodyhalas who left the spirit late last season andjeturned home to r barrie being dealt to the collingwood blues in exchange for future considerations in the trading of devine for sheppard- both 1986born players who will be entering their third season in the league burrows insisted he didnt go out seeking to make the deal but rather it came about after having discussions with hurricanes general manager and director of hockey operations pauldossey on other unrelated issues we started talking about some things and the next thing you know were talking about sheppard and devine it just went from there burrows said burrows was hesitant to depart with devine the regular season with 14 goals and 31 assists in 46 games but he thinks the spirit has four or five players who play a similar game as good play- makers sheppard fills scoring void in acquiring sheppard who in 34 games with the hurricanes last regular season had 12 goals and 18 assists burrows thinks he is get- ting a player who can score we had problems scoring goals last year and im missing some finishers he will be more of a scorer with us maybe last year he got lost in newmarket with a team that had a lot of 20yearolds he said of the georgina resident jin dealing halas who had
