2 stouffville simtribune u thursday jan 27 2005 publication mail agreement 40007673 public input welcome in park development by hannelore volpe staff writer whats the park of your dreams whitchurchstouffville residents are invited to pass on their ideas to con sultants and town staff monday plans to revamp memorial park in the heart of town and develop the new bethesda parklands on bethesda road between ninth line and hwy 48 will affect almost everyone in town that includes anyone who plays ball strolls through the park swims skates lawn bowls and uses the skatepark or recy cling depot the jan 31 meeting on the park mas ter plans takes place from 645 to 10 pm at eastridge evangelical missionary church at 12485 tenth line south of stouffville country market the plans deals with a number of changes and opportunities for instance two ball diamonds will most likely have to be relocated because of the planned extension of park drive through memorial park an assessment will be made of the outdoor pool to see if die aging facility will stay and whats necessary to maintain it the water pollution control plant in memorial park will be decommis sioned the parklands on bethesda road could be the new home of ameni ties such as soccer and softball fields lawn bowling greens and tennis courts local ball and sports field groups have already met with town staff and consultants they and other stakehold ers including members of the whitchurchstouffville chamber of commerce the stouffville business improvement area and the toronto region conservation authority will be at the public meeting more information and updates on progress of the master plans is avail able by logging on to wwwmemoria- landbethesdaparksca the project is being completed with the assistance of the rethink group and landscape architecture firm basterfield associates both based in peterborough anyone who wants to attend the memorial and bethesda park master plans meeting should register by call ing 9056401910 ext 293 vfl- a- -v- sarfrdayjan29 come in and en joy a hot beverage andjdghi snagi for more information please call kia of markham 29 laidlaw blvd markham ontario l3p1w5 905 2 0 1 0 0 0 3 555 ehsjcare coverage staff photosjoerd witteveen giant tiger manager rob bourdeau is covered in hearts as a promo for the heart and stroke foundation fundraiser town shows it has heart by hannelore volpe staff writer fouryearold maddy and threeyearold sam are prob ably stouffvilles youngest canvassers when they accompany their mom susan luff around the neighbourhood raising money for the heart and stroke foundation of ontario ms luff has been knock ing on doors in town for the past two februarys and tak ing the children along shes amazed not one person has turned her down after she has knocked on their door the youngsters accompa ny her because it is impor tant to teach children about charity and community ms luff said canvassing park drive also gives her a chance to meet neighbours she added the children do a little of their own fundraising by ask ing friends for toonie dona tions the luffs have lived in stouffville for 10 years ms luff is one of more than 60 volunteers in stouffville canvassing around 130 streets last year stouffville residents donated almost 18000 according to foundation statistics almost 40 per cent of canadians will develop some form of heart disease or have a stroke the founda tion funds more than 60 per cent of heart and stroke research in canada and car ries out health promotion programs the luffs have donated to the heart and stroke fund for years ms luff saw her grand mother suffer from several strokes after the first she had trouble speaking but didnt know what the prob lem was at first over the years ms luff has seen the difference research into heartrelated diseases makes her dad jim morrow is fine after under going angioplasty for two blocked arteries other campaigns during februarys heart month are paint the town red where local merchants sell bright red paper hearts for a 2 donation and jump rope for heart and hoops for heart this schoolbased program has students raising pledges and participating in jump rope activities or basketball skills shootouts as part of the campaign students are taught how to maintain good health last year glad park public school in stouffville raised 2000 as the feb 1 campaign startup date approaches we are still looking for can vassers on many streets in stouffville said linda potter the heart and stroke funds program coordinator more information on heartrelated diseases fundraising volunteers and programs is available by logging on to wwwheartandstrokeonca
