whitchurchstouffville resi derit couldnt have picked a better time to get back on the track with the next canadian formula ford race this week end as part of the toronto molson indy involved in a headon colli sion on dec 7 in which she suf fered a crushed aortal artery and a broken spine taws was airlifted to hospital and spent eight weeks there amid concern she might never walk again taws recovered from her injuries and upon release from it felt great to go out and do laps last week and i cant wait to go racing hospital began rehabilitation with the goal of talcing part in the toronto moison indy with medical clearance in hand taws gathered her atm ashley taws stouffvillearea resi dent has made full recovery from auto accident dec 7 autosport crew for a couple of quiet test sessions late last week everything went well so taws added her name to the entry list for the race im so happy to be able to race again said taws who signed autographs at the whitchurchstouffville strawberry festival last month it felt great to go out and do laps last week taws official return to com petition commences with a qualifying session tomorrow at 1245 pm another session is scheduled at 645 pm saturday and a 20- lap race is set for 345 pm sunday immediately following the champ car world series race last year taws garnered attention when she was the fastest qualifier and became the first woman in the histories of the canadian formula ford championship and toronto indy to start a race from pole position taws claimed three podium finishes in the eightrace 2002 series had a best result of sec ond set a fastest race lap and finished tied pn points for third place in the championship and rookie of the year recently she was voted up and coming road racer of the year by readers and a mixed doubles championship in addition spencer was a member of the ontario dart team that won the gold medal in the canada cup like most dart players robert spencer stouffville resi dent said he felt fortunate to earn a berth on provincial darts team spencer was introduced to the sport as part of the bar scene at this point it was only a fun thing he admits but with practice his game improved to such an extent he qualified to compete for the ontario tide at kingston last spring but so did more than 200 others from across the province spencer along with seven other men and eight women survived an elimination knock out tournament to advance to the nationals in new brunswick from june 2 to 7 the canada cup was decided in the final found of a hardfought battie with nova scotia the two provinces had entered the finals tied spencer and his partner were credited with giving ontario the gold for spencer it marked his first time as a member of the ontario team and his first time in competition at the national level i felt fortunate to make the ontario team let alone bring home the canada cup and a mixed doubles cham pionship spencer said i was on a hot streak he is a member of the whitchurchstouffville dart league and is a former soft- ball coach in the whitchurch- stouffville house league with the national dart championships being held in prince edward island next year
