competitors take the first step toward earning provincial high school honours last week they advanced to the central regionals after fin ishing in the top five at last weeks okum third in discus the 4 x 100m relay team of geense dana wood harris and deidre wood finished second megan sealy was the lone member of the senior girls team to advance after finishing fourth in javelin vouc uaon anarnc riext wednesday in the midget girls field jessica harris was stouffvilles lone gold medallist as she captured the 100 metres in a time of 130923 a grade 9 student harris 15 also finished second in the 200m in the 800m cassie sparks fin ished second among junior girls jasmine geense was fifth in the 100m and 200m dana wood second in the 400m sandra pankratz third in the 80mhurdles and high jump tiziana cptechini second in triple jump and javelin and fifth in long jump jessica april fourth in shot put katelyn smith second in discus and rebecca last year we took 35 kids to the york region championships and this year we only took 19 but of that group 14 qualified in 25 different events so we had some serious quality among boys brandon walker advanced in three events after finish ing second in discus third in shot put and fourth in the 800m tim dunham was fifth in the jun ior boys 1500m in the senior boys events kevin mcgrath recorded thirdplace efforts in the shot put and discus spartans track and field coach steve jimmo- was happy with the effort by his team he was quick to note with a small er squad this year more participants were able to qualify for the central regionals explanation for the smaller track team at sdss at a small school its hard to draw students and with three rugby teams two boys and one girls girls soccer and fastball that makes it tough to get students for track he said juniors tackle two wins in york region boys rugby action the spartan juniors improved their record to 30 after posting two victo ries last week after defeating host unionville high school 3110 on monday the spartans blanked brother andre catholic high school190 in a game played at sutton district high school wednesday hudson heyden dan james and shaun gibson each
