whitchurchstouffviile is asking you the residents of this community what you think of recreation here town officials are studying local recreation facilities and the needs current and future of the people who live here sounds simple thousands of new residents will move here in the next 20 years build a couple of sports fields and add a couple of new recreation programs to keep them happy and active right its not that easy town officials are trying to forecast the desires of the next generation will adult hockey fizzle out in popularity as those opposed to the construction of the second ice pad at the stouffville arena predicted in the mid1990s will cricket and soccer become the games of choice instead of softball make no mistake a third arena ice pad should be built somewhere in whitchurchstouffviile in the next five years the current population almost justifies it the two ice pads have been fully booked in prime time for several years when the town does build the rink it should do it right the current ice pads are not user friendly at least to spectators proper seating is the big problem heating and acoustics are others if the town wants a blueprint for a rink check out the second ice pad built in uxbridge the town has done many good things when it comes to recreation in this community the new soccer pitches in ballantrae the first ever on townowned land were overdue and with the booming popularity of soccer here more will be needed soccer everywhere is showing no sign of losing its luster the indoor pool and fitness centre in the lebovic leisure centre have proven to be big hits with residents they will no doubt help attract newcomers to this community i what do you think tell town officials including your councillor and the mayor tell this important is it for whitchurchstouffviile town councillors and members of the public to understand the full of the developments moving across stouffville in the north south east and west at the town council meeting in the afternoon of jan 21 councillors had before them for their decision a full inch of- technical reports and outside correspondence relating to just one agenda item ft ft ft these documents dealt with the functional servicing studies for the northwest and southwest quadrants ie for the new developments north and south of main street in the west end there were modifications to- the reports dated january 2003 that had not been brought before the public because of the impact new developments will have on all phases of life in this town is there a better way of dealing with these complex issues before putting such a collection of documents on the official council agenda should these matters be brought before council and the public at a special council meeting in the evening so working residents and taxpayers can attend arid well advertised in the local press with a clear explanation of their irnportance this would permit town staff to brief council and the public on functional servicirig studies prepared by the consultants of the developers as well as the impact these plans would have on the town ft jt would also enable councillors to be prepared to comment on the concerns of residents when the functional servicing studies and accompanying documents were placed on the official council agenda at an afternoon council meeting are development plans being rushed past councillors too fast ft fred robbins stouffville email fax mail letters to newspapers editor ft m 1 the stouffville sun tribune welcomes letters to the editor from its readers letters to the
