carlo to an 18thplace finish sunday at the cascar mopar parts 300 feature event at race city speedway in calgary alta the stouffvillebased team took to the track last friday to qualify through one of two 100lap qualifiers starting 11th on the grid in the first 100lap race the team 3 red vehicle fin ished fifth and was slotted into the 1 1th starting position for sundays feature event shortly after the halfway point of the race cascar officials called the team 3 red monte carlo into the pit area to check into the source of smoke that was seen coming from the car after a close inspection the vehicle was all right but rowse jr was down one green flag lap while in the pits returning to the track rowse jr worked the car in the higher grove of the race surface and after a second tire stop and a full tank of fuel the car was on rails after a long race team 3 red finished 18th despite the finish team 3 red crew chief rob rowse accentuated the posi tive these boys worked hard all week end he said the two canadian forces vehicle technicians that helped us this weekend really worked well with our guys and that is great all around it was a fun weekend in finishing 18th rowse jr occupies 15th place in the overall point standings with 1082 don thomson jr leads with 1348 the team will resume its series this weekend with two entries at the vancouver molson indy the cascar super series will be one of the key support races at the vancouver indy and will race tomorrow and saturday whitchurchstouffville sports camp a hit with older kids participants enjoy skate park swimming at inaugural program by jim thomas correspondent whitchurchstouffvilles firstever sports camp has been so successful the department of leisure services is certain to try it again this is the feeling of assistant programmer stacey stevens based out of summitview public school the camp to date has attracted 17 boys and girls ranging in age from eight to 13 years the camp schedule is divid ed into three time slots 9 am to 4 pm 730 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 5 pm the cost is 1 15 for a fiveday week and 95 for a fourday week about four more registra tions can be accommodated stacey stevens was pleased with the response of towns inaugur al sports camp stevens says the camp concludes aug 23 matt downie of stouffville and natalie faria of markham are the two senior counsellors in charge activities include swimming volleyball basketball tennis floor hockey skateboarding and crayfishing all captured cray fish are thrown back in stevens insists we were looking for some thing for the older children stevens occupy fifth place in cascar standings with 100 laps remaining in the 300lap event gibbons began to manoeuvre his way towards the leaders as he began to pick off cars one at a time finally working his way through the lap traffic up to the fourth spot where he would remain until the conclusion we just ran out of time the field got spread out and with the last 50 laps staying green it was hard to catch the leader gibbons acknowledged i tried to pass al turner for the third spot a couple of times but he made his car really wide and that allowed the two front cars to pull away my crew worked great today they got me out front i kept them working hard in the pits all day long my hats off to them 3 jim lapcevich took the checkered flag the canadian tire team was credited with leading the most laps of the mopar week- end and the ngk fast lap of the race gibbons effort during the weekend enabled him to vault into fifth place in the overall series standings from 10th gibbons currently
