lorincz came to canada while still a boy he picked tobacco in delhi ont searched for but never found happiness at the end of a bottle and discovered art when he was looking for something else mr lorincz isnt an ordinary guy he isnt an ordinary artist in his 50plus years theres never been anything ordinary about him for the seventh year in a row mr lorinczs works of art are a featured part of art in the park at the markham museum and historical village july 20 and 21 throughout the show mr lorincz will be busy explaining how he takes a simple piece of maple or mahogany and turns it into a thing of beauty people are fascinated by his art and by his personality mr lorincz joins more than 100 artists to make this one of the largest and best outdoor art shows in ontario the first year mr lorincz reg istered for art in the park he came as a furniture maker he sold a butcher table and a coffee table to two of the event organiz ers they bought more than something to eat from or some thing to put flowers on they knew they were buying art i have a special spot in my heart for art in the park said mr lorincz it gave me my start it transformed me from a furni- art in park kids can paint or be painted the kreative kids sec tion of art in the park gives children their own world of art during both days of the july 2021 event there children are invited to create their own masterpieces kids can paint listen to the jester storyteller talk to the clowns and have their faces painted kids can also design their own medieval family crest and fly it high on a banner meanwhile on both days children have a chance to meet shannon leone author and illustra tor of caseys castle and have their book signed ture maker to an artist the peo ple who organized the very first art in the park encouraged me to try my hand as an artist they gave me confidence up until then id never been to an art gallery in my life since the first show in 1996 mr lorincz has sold art pieces valued at between 200 and 10000 hes also sold pieces where the buyer didnt care if the art was signed they bought the piece it for its beauty alone said mr lorincz somehow i felt it was such a compliment they didnt care if i signed it up until a few short years ago mr lorinczs life wasnt anything to write home about he kicked around from job to job tried family life but eventually failed at it turned to drink and like most alcoholics ended up living from one dark day to the next with a chip on his shoulder and a spirit growing meaner and darker with the passing of time he blamed god for all things god didnt mind hed come across this problem before god waited for mr lorincz to figure things out one day i felt like god was standing behind me with a bull dozer pushing me out of all the bad stuff said mr lorincz i just wanted to stay sane so id pick up a piece of wood and start to carve i always felt i had con trol of my mind when i was hold ing onto wood and carving believing one door leads to another mr lorincz quit drink ing and went on a journey it led me to my art he recalled it led me to spirituality i dont know where the art comes from i just follow it judging from the pieces hes created its a journey worth fol lowing mr lorincz works predomi nately in maple and metals my art is spiritual sensual and sexu al he stressed its also haunting and sooth ing innocent and guilty old and just born coming and going its raw and pure its unlike anyone elses it belongs to itself he said it has a free will mr lorincz speaks of a spe cial piece sold awhile ago to lows funeral home in uxbridge his father helped him carve it from an 150yearold tree stump i carved away at least 800 pounds its beautiful my father passed away recently this piece means a great deal to me he said at the present time many of his pieces are being shown at a gallery in buckhorn and at veni vidi studio gallery in port perry my work is noted for its sen suality and passion it triggers emotion and it demands touch i have a passion theres love in my art it is alive he said mr lorincz is an artist-in-res- idence at the centre for the arts school in seven mile island on lake scugog along with fellow artists john northcott and elizabeth kusinski joseph lorincz gave up drinking and turned to art his work will be featured again at this years art in the park at the markham museum antiques minstrels musicians all part of this years show children can make a banner talk to a clown or listen to a storyteller at the seventh annual art in the park july 20 and 21 at the markham museum this years art in the park on july 20 and 21 will be a family affair promising something for everyone located on the grounds of the markham museum and historic village on hwy 48 just north of 16th avenue art in the park is a proven success sponsored by the economist and sun the stouffville tribune and the stouffville sun not only is the event one of the most unique art shows in ontario featuring more than 120 artists presenting their works from 10 am to 5 pm on saturday and sunday but this year an antique show and sale has been added to the lineup meanwhile plenty of entertainment has been organized for children and adults theres no need tojind a babysitter in fact bring the babysitter along heres whats featured on saturday july 20 the resurgence theatre company with a summer youth theatre production of famed novelistplaywright r salman rushdies haroun arid the sea of stories ballet performances to the music of romeo and juliet singers vania lizbeth chan and sara parkin the muses and friends with their foot stompin music of old time fiddling and guitar the antique show and sale baroque musicians ian coombs and peter nemeth of nonsuch heres the line up for sunday july 21 falconry demonstrations by the central ontario school of falconry ballet performances old time foot stompin fiddling and guitar singers the antique show and sale caricature artists baroque musicians 3 renaissance strolling minstrels and maid ens stilt walkers jesters and clowns of yester years wandering me park admission is 5 for adults and 3 for chil dren and seniors proceeds go to celebration of the arts initiative and the markham museum joan ransberry z
