played this past week travelling to claremont on wednesday the mennos received some key defensive plays and capitalized on two rebel errors to emerge with a 73 win rino dambrosio paced a fivehit stouffville attack with two hits and two rbis danny deeks contributed a hit and one rbi while byron baranieski and jeff boadway also had a hit boadway terry reesor and scott eyre each fielded big defensive plays to stifle any potential rebel uprising baranieski went the full seven innings and limited the rebels to just four hits while striking out six to earn the win on thursday the mennos surrendered 10 runs in two innings and paid the price in an 117 loss to host bradford trailing 111 entering the sixth inning the mennos made the score respectable when dambrosio led off the inning with a solo homer and boadway delivered a threerun homer to cut the deficit to 1 15 the mennos then added two more runs in the seventh but couldnt get any closer eyre had two hits and two rbis for the mennos now 83 on the season burkholder also had two hits and baranieski one hit and one rbi the mennos will play at keswick on tuesday and return home to face markham on wednesday at 830 pm team 3 red races off with good and disappointing news the stouffvillebased team 3 red racing team experi enced some positive results when they took to the mosport 25mile track for the cascar clarington 250 race last week end and at the same time though there was a bit of disap pointment fielding two cars in the scheduled 64lap race which was shortened in half due to rain on sunday the team 3 red saw their vehicles finish seventh and 31st qualifying in the 18th starting position billy rowse jr drove the 3 snapon toolscanadian forces monte carlo into seventh place while teammate chris fowler began the race in 19th position before steering the 30 canadian forcessnap on tools monte carlo into 31st i am really happy with our seventh place today said rowse jr after the weekend that this team has had and the crazy weather we will take the seventh home with us it is too bad that chris fowler didnt have as good of a weekend as we had hoped well be ready for the molson indy toronto with these two cars and we can go out there and have some fun he added fowler picked up a distributor problem early and the team went to work to get him back out onto the racetrack quickly being scored six laps down in the shortened event fowler cautiously tried to make laps in the increasingly wet conditions on lap 22 he lost control of his car in corner three of the 10turn course and was brought onto pit road to remove body damage he managed one more lap before retiring the car for the day in 31st place we had a tough weekend and the rain really put a damper on this race said fowler the car picked up a problem and the laps down are hard to get back we will get the cars back together and be ready for the molson indy toronto i am really looking forward to that event through four events rowse jr to coaching high schoolfootball by mike hayakawa staff writer jamie hewitt says he will be fulfilling a dream come true its not that the uxbridge resident is quite happy now being the head of the physical education department at stouffville district secondary school and coach of the spartans senior boys hockey and rugby and senior girls basketball teams this past year but when school reconvenes this fall hewitt feels he will be in seventh heaven as the spartans new head football coach with former head coach heath weirs sudden depar ture to become a graduate assistant football coach at the university of memphis hewitt elected to pick up the pigskin and run with it hewitt is no stranger to the gridiron as he was the head football coach at sir john a macdonald collegiate in scarborough in 1995 and was an assis tant at agincourt collegiate the follow ing season when they lost in the scarborough final for me coaching football is a dream come true said hewitt who with the new responsibility will not coach the senior girls basketball team next year i love football and i missed it a lot im very excited change is good and it was time for a change he added inheriting a secondyear team hewitt acknowledges he will have his work cut out for him but he cherishes the task in attempting to build on what became an enthusiastic pro gram last year in succeeding weir whom he credited in reviving the schools football program hewitts biggest chore is to replace 32 graduating seniors from a squad that won two games in their inaugural campaign weve got a lot of work to do weve got a lot of new kids coming on board well be young and we might be a bit small but the kids are excited and the new season is com ing at us pretty fast said hewitt as the new head coach hewitt revealed he wont make drastic changes but rather he might make some minor adjustments on both sides of the ball theres no sense in reinventing the wheel after just one year said hewitt we will keep the stuff that works and just do some fine tuning new people have some new ideas hewitt wont be the only new coach on staff rob edmondson a former player at wilfrid laurier university and assistant coach at markham district high school will assist with the offence al young who was with the squad last year will remain to direct the defence along with andy stoikos hewitt is also hoping he will receive some assis tance on the sidelines from some community coaches who reside in the area hewitt said the school plans on hosting at least three friday evening games for the upcoming season as well he has tentatively scheduled two exhibition games prior to the season opener which wont be announced until the start of the new school year once york region athletic association schools make their
