wpn st tribune thursday august 14 1997 p 15 1 mite boys claim silver sports the source promotions mite select boys struck silver at the innisfil softball association tournament on aug 10 in the first game stouffville defeated the east gwillim- bury team 108 with brendan mcneely running hard and scoring two runs the stouffville squad then edged woodbridge 76 in an exciting game which saw the boys pull together and display solid team defence in the championship game stouffville faced guildwood and were unable to rally at the end of the game to overcome their 1 19 point deficit devin paynter made an impressive double play and shawn smith scored three runs plans for junior girls fastball team are in the planning stages marissa stapley correspondent select teams to take part in weekend tournament the stouffville select squirt girls softball club will be gear ing up for some hardhitting action on saturday when they take to the ball diamond to compete in the select girls tournament at memorial park the first pitch of the tournament is slated to take place at 8 am with games following at 10 am and 1 pm the stouff ville team is slated to open play against eringate at 8 am and then play chinguacousy at 10 am and leaside at 1 pm the consolation final and championship match will take place at 3 pm other teams in the tournament taking part include union- ville bridlewood seven oaks and aurora on sunday the boys will take to the memorial park diamonds when they host a peewee select tournament local coaches have come up with a plan for a junior girls fastball team in stouffville next year we want to solidify female baseball in the area and give a crack at winning the tier one provincials in 1998 said cur rent stouffville midget girls coach fred timms the plan involved timms and dave millers midget girls team along with coach mary deveauxs midget girls team basically mary has discussed com bining our team with hers and creating a new midget girls team said timms the girls who have another year of midget softball remaining includes danielle timms amanda connolly amanda crowder jackie thome and mandy landford from timms team will join the stouffville junior girls team the following season meanwhile miller and timms will form a junior team drawing from midget players who will have reached the junior age next season and from players from the markham area who do not have access to a junior team tryouts for the junior girls team are scheduled for some time in september weve already got a good nucleus of eight players from the midget level plus a player who was too old this year to play midget and would like to play junior said timms he is enthusiastic about the chance the new stouffville team will give the area to show off localtalent were the only town that doesnt draw players from all over ontario for tier one he explained this team is going to be made up completely of local talent were going to try to win it all the cabletech midget girls under the direction of timms and miller won the gold medal at the oakridges provincial qualifiers last weekend and will be trav elling to kingston for the provincial championships aug 2224 all the girls played very well this weekend said timms we also had tia salley a player who was injured and unable to play the rest of the season out to supply inspiration he said timms is hopeftil that the same fans who support ed the midget girls this season will get involved with the new stouffville junior girls team next season were going to try to win it all r special one wiek hockey camp get ready for september tryouts running from august 25th 29th 1 pm 5 pm 27500session held at centennial arena please call bill jefferson at 2948026
