and country club was a resounding success report tournament officials the event which saw a sold out roster of 164 s golfers take part raised 7800 for youth programs in whitchurchstouffville local national hockey league veteran keith acton provided outstanding support organizers said markham resident brad may of the buffalo sabres was also involved as was local councillor judy scala mayor wayne emmer- son was on the organizing commit tee players included local resi dents and extoronto maple leafs bob hassard and bill root hockey night in canadas ron mclean was present as were markham mayor don cousens and richmond hill mayor bill bell the first place prize of four jack ets from stouffvilles choko design were won by the foursome of mike kelland ivan geer tim harris and graham mackenzie the team had a net score of 55 v items for prizes and draws included a wayne gretzky hockey sweater and nhl hockey sticks the tournament received prizes and support from numerous local businesses and individuals as well as the nhl- players associa tion and the philadelphia flyers the event which is to be held annually is the first fundraiser to be held in support of mayors youth program activities masters championships marathon sunday m buffalo ny the 40yearold insur ance broker was the fourth highest canadian finisher and came in 26th in the mens 40 to 44 age catego ry he clocked a time of two hours 59 minutes and 17 seconds oyer the 422 kilo- metre course 7 the race was part of the world masters games which are held every sec ond year in various parts of the world the marathon got under way at 6 am in buffalo and ended up in chippewa hear niagara falls it was kavluks first ever appearance in the masters event which is open to men 40 and over and women 35 and oyer the next one is in south africa so i thought this might be the closest it might get for me hopeful ly it will be in canada some year kavluk said the early start and the rain that fell throughput helped stave off the tuesday in a yorksimcbe baseball association game the win came two days after michael columbos struck but six and wilson banged out five hits including two triples and two doubles in the indians 162 victory over the same alliston squad rj chase had two hits including the go ahead home run in the third inning in tuesdays contest thorney levi barkey and kevin hayward also hit safely for the indians barkey columbos alex martin and nicky dambrosio made outstanding catches to help seal the win in sundays match paul benincasa and thorney each had four hits chase had three hits with martin hayward and dambrosio chipping in with two apiece the indians used stellar defence and smart base running to help forge the onesided tri umph rebels gain split still in second the claremont williamson motors rebels fell just short in their efforts to overhaul davisville chicken deli in the battle for first place in north york major fastball league action in claremont on july 19 the visitors touched rebels pitching ace scott evans for two first inning runs on four consecutive singles then went on to eke put a 32 victory in front of the rebels largest crowd of the season a fifth inning solo home run gave
