me along and as a kid just getting to play sports is great not just for the chance to play but to help prepare for the things theyll encounter in their life acton said he wore his stouffville clippers sweater with pride while coming up through the whitchurch- stouffville minor hockey association rep ranks he said he has always been aware of the strong stoiif- fville hockey tradition dating back to the days when the town used to ice senior and intermediatolevel teams o l was a pretty competitive kid and used to think al our townconweiinat against other towr in hoyalmi always thought stouffville different from anything he had experienced before after being hired as assistant coach of the philadelphia flyers he played for six weeks with the flyers- hershey farm team during the nhl labor dis pute last fall and winter pibiears been a bit of an adventure its been a long le praised flyers gm aby clarke for making the icompetitive after sever- gppointing seasons gibs went as far as the astern conference finals this spring losing out to the eventual stanley cup cham pion new jersey devils our team definitely came a long way this year bobby clark made a couple of really smart moves acton said he had been to buffalo for an interview for the head coaching job with the buffalo sabres but had nt heard anything yet acton said he enjoyed the challenge of coaching in the nhl its pretty competitive at this level youre striving to win its not like minor hock ey where youre out to have fun acton said he and his fami ly would continue to main tain a home in stouffville and that he was
