were applauded this week by the province for their overwhelming participation in helping to plan york regions future municipal affairs minister ed philip made the acknowl edgement to local residents during an announcement mon day offering york region a special 465000 grant to help cover costs in preparation of its firstever official plan work done to date on yorks first official plan has been encouraging i have been impressed by the extent of community involvement in the process whitchurch-stouf- fville hosted the largest com munity meeting philip said local residents packed the latcham hall last month to share opinions comments and ideas during one of nine york- hosted vision 2021 public hearing sessions more than 90 residents gath ered to make sure their thoughts would be incorporat ed into york regions future planning and lifestyle docu ments which will help deter mine whitchurchstouffvilles future philip said the special grant backs the highpriority project for york region and the province signalling a joint interest to map out the future for the area this grant demonstrates our commitment to good longterm planning in york region philip said we are happy progress is being made because official plans are the framework for generating economic develop ment opportunities the min ister announced york region politicians received a final draft of the document which contains pub lic comments from taxpayers across the region many of whitchurchstouf fvilles comments including preservation of history her itage and cultural sites and protection of agricultural lands have now been included in the final draft of the vision document a draft official plan is expect ed by the fall of 1993 with the final plan to be adopted in spring next year ballantrae residents super
