goodwood partyers man aged one win in three outings tourney notes wildest uni forms award went to the wiggly pop crew with their swirly shirts many squads were without team shirts suggesting that slopitch may be just another victim of the ressession as with several tournaments in the past some fans were com menting on incidents of foul lan guage on the field and in the area of the players benches warnings were given by umpires on some occasions while fan reaction resulted in apologies by others doug mcquaig of the stouf fville mcasphalt tar babi- escomes in safe at third while guy murffit of the stouffville sideliners shows his distress at the fact by lying flat out on the ground during the week end slopitch tournamnet at memorial park softball midgets all undressed with some place to go the latest victim of the recession would appear to be the whitchurch- stouffville softball association wssa or more specifically the local ball associations midget boys rep team according to that perennial workhorse of the wssa rep ranks mary myers the 1991 midgets have reversed that old line about being all dressed up with nowhere to go because the midgets under the direction of coach joe infurnari could indeed be going places this season the talent is there insists myers but the tea uniforms are not due to the lack of a sponsor the town is running dry mey ers lamented recently we have more teams than ever before in the house league 76 and weve just sport notes sn- zvmzmxzimzi cm c e apiwy run out of sponsors with the rep season already underway myers is becoming more and more desperate to come up with some sort of solution to her problem and apparenflyits not just the midgets who are experienc ing difficulties with the sluggish economy a 11 the rep teams are hurting said myers it started last year when the midgets never did endup with a proper sponsor but its worse than ive ever seen it this v 1 41 t r c- i- year all the teams will be fund raising myers says she has tried every thing in her attempts to find spon sorship money for the midgets but that up until now her efforts have failed to bear fruit its the economy ive asked everyone in town im asking everyone i know to look for some one wholl help us out i dont know how else to go about it she says shes at the point where she will even accept half of the standard 1500 sponsorship fee just so she can arrange to have proper team uniforms done up for the midgets id hate to see the team end up going to the ontario eliminations without anything to wear its going to be bad enough playing in league games without them myers says she will even consider pooling sponsors together into a merchants consortium with each contributor paying for one or more uniforms its more expensive that way because each shirt has to have a dif ferent sponsors name on the back but ill try anything on a brighter note the wssa is working on a fair way of deciding which local kids will be allowed to participate when 12 players from the canadian senior mens and womens softball teams come to town to put on a clinic july 27 the dozen national hot shots who will leave the following week to compete in the pan american games in cuba are to take over two diamonds at memorial park with 100 kids in all joining in others will be free to watch from the sidelines with a sound system being set up so all can hear whats going on out on the field the plan being considered would see entry forms printed in the local papers in midjuly with the kids dropping them off at the newspaper offices all the forms would be put into a drum with 100 being picked at ran dom the wssa is hoping a local group will come forward to offer to put on a modest dinner in latcham hall for the 12 team canada play ers after the clinic is over anyone who would consider get ting involved with the meal should call mary myers at 7275139 ditto for the sponsorship of the midget rep team ft 11 tfvh m 4 tv f- 1 i i v iti
