conservation to cut towns authority wants representation the tomumwednesbay november 1 1989p3 tracy kibble staff reporter the lake simcoe and region conservation authority wants to slash its municipal represen tatives by 66 per cent which would cut york regions input from 11 members to four but councillor margot mar shall whitchurchstouffvilles sole representative says she is against the cut which she says could eliminate whitchurch- stouffville input altogether currently operating with 26 representatives from each municipality in the lake simcoe area the lsrca membership review committee says the number should be reduced to a more desirable and workable number geared at saving money but councillor marshall serv ing her first year on the authority following jim rae and eldred king says every municipality has different concerns and the representation for each should not be based on population but on conservation concerns the mayor agrees we have a large jurisdiction with many ket- tle lakes mayor fran sainsbury says richmond hill may be more populated but it has a smaller bethesda plan gets approval the region of york has given its approval for the proposed development at hwy 47 and bethesda rd the 11hectare 27acre site will house a packaging plant and warehouse operation if okayed by the ministry of municipal affairs the land which is currently idle is adjacent to the cn rail line which is needed for the facility the regional planning commit tee report called the proposed development a logical extension to the mixed commercial and in dustrial development along the west side of the cn rail line whitchurchstouffville council is in agreement with the proposal because among other things the project would utilize the rail line and possibly save it from abandonment the site is currently zoned for rural uses and would have to be changed to industrial the development will be ser viced by individual wells and private sewage disposal systems which is agreeable with the regional officer of health area that is environmentally sen sitive as do markham and vaughan the representation should not go by population but by land concerns councillor marshall maintains york region makes up 11 of the current 26 members to serve on the board while durham region and simcoe county hold three representative spots although the lsrca wants town council approval for the proposed cutback the town of whitchurchstouffville does not- approve of the cutback and coun- cillor marshall is firm whitchurchstouffville will not change its position on the lsrca i strongly object to the reduc tion of municipal members at the lsrca council to amend towns sign bylaw tracy kibble staff reporter council agreed to review and correct its sign bylaw after a spokesman for the anderson in dustrial park condominiums on sandiford dr asked to have a separate sign for each of the three office buildings the industrial condominiums on sandiford dr are unrecognizable and com panies dont know bylaw to allow a separate sign for each of the three 48unit buildings he said berms or manmade hills in the middle of the property line block the view of the condos from the road and curbs built 14 feet back from the property line are not consistent there was no accommodation made for the condos and many of our tenants are disturbed because there is no visible signage hakonen said i know this is a problem and a lot of money is spent on advertis ing mayor fran sainsbury said the company wants to erect weatherresistant name sign locaters on the berms the locaters would measure 12 feet from the base and nearly 10 feet across with company logos en cased in a 12inch spot identifying the unit number for each building the mayor pointed out the york group is the first industrial condo developer
