and those who knew him as a tireless and caring volunteer saddened at the loss of an exceptional individual dr mulholland was born at his familys homestead in the bathurst and lawrence area on october 15 1907 his father died before his second birthday and his mother rented out the homestead and raised her two children in the city they return ed to their home and dr mulholland farmed there for some time before going back to school he graduated from victoria college in 1937 after a five year course in dentistry he was in practice until he enlisted in the canadian dental corps which n was attached to the royal cana- dian air force where he served for four years during the war dr mulholland married emily ashworth in august of 1946 and in 1947 he sold the family farm the mulhollands moved to cashel where they farmed from 1950 until they moved to markham in 1980 raising sheep goats and horses always a willing volunteer dr mulholland was a cub master in the city for 18 years and a foun- ding director of the york region branch of the canadian mental health association he was also on the board of management of the canadian national institute for the blind for fifteen years and was made an honourary member in recent years after he took up farming he also did volunteer work in den tistry in north york schools dr mulholland became legally blind in the early 1960s but he was an active volunteer at the skating club where his family were members he was also partly disabled because of arthritis which started during the war in the late 60s and early 70s he was welfare administrator for the town of markham visiting and interviewing people who ap plied for benefits his job took him to richmond hill markham and unionville with his wife in open house on saturday oct 22 jim and franke lewis formerly of rr 1 stouffville and later of ballan- trae will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary to mark the occasion an open house will be held at first markham baptist church from 1 to 5 pm on the grounds of the markham museum family relatives and friends are invited the role of driver despite his deteriorating health dr mulholland was a keen and competent handyman and he and his wife always worked together he was a man who loved people even during the last 28 months which he spent in sunnybrook hospital he never lost his interest in others or his sense of humour service was held
