a8 tk1bunk october 12 1988 weight fines unfair dear editor ive written a letter to the mjnistry of transportation voic ing my opinion on the behalf of fellow gravel and freight hauler about roadside scales i understand and value the need for safety checks and weight laws however weve recently experienced too many times how the ministry and its officials defeat the purpose of weight laws and highway regulations a perfect example of this is the axle weight restrictions although such a restriction is needed we wish to point out that our gravel pits are not equipped with scales to show correct axle weights we believe drivers who knowingly pull over their grossed weight should be penalized if caught but show us anyone who can look inside a trailer full of gravel and be able to tell if an ax el is overweight and by how much this is impossible for instance a driver pulls on to the roadside scales and is directed to park he or she is guil ty of axle overweight our ministry boys say just to show you how nice we are well just give you a fine and send you on your way overweight now tell us are they really out there to protect our highways or just take our money money that should be used to repair our pathetically rough roads this again leads to more costs for drivers for repairs due to bad road conditions we feel on this matter of axle weight laws all drivers should be given the choice of making their loads legal instead of automatically taking our money in fines without knowing of our guilt in the first place seeing as how the ministry is letting us leave the scales overweight anyway were forced to avoid scales and unfair penalities that accom pany axle weight laws for this reason we can only address a let ter on this matter for a change seeing as all drivers would loose a days pay to argue the point in court this letter speaks for all drivers put over the same barrel as ourselves because we dont wish further harrassment from the ministry boys we must re main annoymous sincerely time for a change george koss studio weds lovely etobicoke girl mr and mrs douglas sanderson are pictured here following their marriage june 18 1988 in st lukes united church to last weeks story on muzzles for pit bulls im wondering if mrs sevmour has ever met a pit bull stafford shire bull terrier for those of us who regard all dogs with the same reverence during the hot and humid weather it is beyond my com prehension why parents allow their children to play with an animal not belonging to them without permission dogs are creatures of habit as are humans and if one human might have a bad public record so might a dog become agitated when accosted by an unknown person we have tried to teach the children in our neighborhood the respect any dog deserves and it works our staffordshire is always on a lead when out for a walk and if mrs seymour would like to meet our pit bull she is more than welcome to do so but please do not categorize our dog with those persons who should not own this type of breed thank you for space in your newspaper i remain a stalwart supporter of the staffordshire bull terrier club of canada sincerely marie graham rr 3 stouffville last
