gold at tourney the betz pool clippers oldtim- ers finally struck gold in three previous tournaments this season the squad reached the finals but finished as runnerup at the coha mcmurtry cup tournament it was a different story as the oldtimers beat amherstburg 62 to take home gold to get to the finals the clippers had 21 record beating the hock ey shop rinkles and city tavern but losing to their gold medal opponents from amherstburg the gold medal game was fast and closechecking with no scor ing until midway through the con test when ron cain took the pass from a rushing john blair and popped it in to take the lead inspired play from captain round mckinnon and furious fore checking and backchecking kept amherstburg from forming any of its smooth passing plays that had been prevalent in their earlier wins against torontos rinkles and city tavern with amherstburg applying heavy pressure ron cain cleared the puck off the boards and bill ormson picked it up and scored a shorthanded marker to take a two goal lead two more goals by bill ormson and joe inf urnari built the lead to four while amherstburg came back to score one the betz oldtimers netted singles by ron cain and john blair to put the game out of reach going on to win 62 coach eric scaife had the old boys working hard with three well balance lines mckinnon lloyd and mcmann blair cain and weatherill and ormson inf ur nari and ness and a strong defen sive corps of steve ellis bill cor- ner george cowley al hachey steve upton and dave parrott in goal the oldtimers next coha tournament is march 4 to
