kaxjtxssaftfifsek3334axitftsaaiftaib iisitiatiit si preschool issue solved by mom bells anger supported in ravine development dear editor this is in response to mr morans comments in the article preschool centre weeken der nov 14 regarding parking congestion created by parents while dropping off children at the preschool there are a couple of very easy solutions to this problem and perhaps if i solve them you and your council will consider letting the preschool remain in its pre sent location especially when you have no definite plans for the buildings future use the first solution i offer to you and your fellow councillors is to allow the parents to use the spaces reserved for you ive been using your spaces for five minutes two times per day for the last two years and have yet to run into any of you you have all the spots around the municipal offices reserved and mayor bell is the only one who is regularly parked there this may be a nice perk but to complain of traffic congestion when 80 per cent of these spots sit empty infuriates me my second solution is very easy when coiistructiion on woodbine ave is finished we will be able to use the street on the north side of the school well be right out of your way you may find crowding and congestion difficult but youll soon have plenty of space in your new offices the parents teachers and chil dren of kiddies country pre- school dont mind the mess be cause a valuable service is being provided please let us stay where we are mary cullen markham ont reader sets the record straight dear editor i would like to refer to the arti cle and photo dated oct 28 enti tled gohn house moved to herit age site there are two incorrect state ments published in this article which i would like to correct number one you said david gohn married the adopted daugh ter lucy of the family he went to live with david gohn was my great grandfather and he went to five with mr and mrs christian schroder at lot 9 concession 3 markham township i he married lucy hederick daughter of mr and mrs john hederick who lived across the road on lot 8 concession 2e markham township lucy was not an adopted daughter secondly wesley c gohn was my father and he never compiled or wrote any history of the gohn family i have spent considerable time over the past few years resear ching documenting and compil ing the gohn family history which dates back to september 19 1738 if in future any information concerning the gohn family his tory may be required please feel free to contact me lloyd b gohn arthur ont dear editor re proposed 100 unit condo in robinson creek ravine i fully agree with mayor bells anger over canada squares back door approach to the church people their slick sales pitch was obviously aimed at quelling opposition before it started and im sure they presented none of the negative aspects of such a de velopment i have heard that permission for a singlefamily dwelling on the residential portion of this valley was refused in the past why should the openspace por tion be rezoned now to make money for a developer ecologically this development would seriously change the water shed effect of this valley perhaps with disastrous results thank you says group dear editor on behalf of the markham block parent association i wish to extend our appreciation for the publicity you gave our organiza tion in the oct 28 edition of the economist and sun the two pages devoted to block parents was very eyecatching they served as a reminder to cur rent block parents to display their signs on halloween to make the streets safer for our children while trickortreating the ad also provided an excel lent means of educating the com munity as to the purpose of block parent homes hopefully it en couraged readers to seriously consider becoming block pa rents the advertisement was made possible through the efforts of your staff in contacting local businesses who might be in terested in sponsoring pumpkins on these pages thank you sincerely for the sup port your paper extended our organization in this endeavour are we so sure well never have another hurricane hazel and the environmental value of trees seems too easily forgotten they are so much more than a builders nuisance in the three apartment build ings adjoining this property live several hundred fixedincome seniors who trusted that this quiet natural open space would remain as it was originally in tended its a breach of trust to expect them to cheerfully exchange this for the sights sounds and fumes from a large apartment building about 200 people paved roads a hundred or so cars and assorted services visitors etc an entrance onto hwy 7 high way at this already busy point is too frightening to consider and the mayor am council of markham cordially invite you to join them for the festival of lights 630 pm friday december 4 at 645 pm the same evening we are going to celebrate the completion of improvements to markham main street its a street event for the whole family the little streets to the north are already carrying enough traffic i dont believe we are talking about benefits for seniors but simply about a good deal for a big corporation anyone with assets to buy one of these units does have other choices they are not needy or de sperate if ever the valley did have to be used in the future it should be only for those people on the lowest level of income i hope council rejects this prop osal totally realizing that this valley is not the place for this or any other large development and i urge the public to let them know it would be a mistake to approve it l browning markham s we fapkbnrard to seeing you therevvc
