every season has its unique beauty and charm the fall season is in a class of its own what other season can compare to the beautiful reds oranges greens browns and yellows of fall as the hillsides come alive with the changing of the trees there is often a crispness in the air the smell of leaves burning or a log ire its no wonder that fall is a season of thanksgiving as we share in another thank sgiving time most of us in the markham area have much for which to be thankful we live in a beautiful fairly affluent com munity we live in nice homes drive nice cars wear beautiful clothing eat more than we need have all the latest conveniences right at our fingertips materially speaking weve got it made oh we still complain ab out not having enough of wanting so much more but when you real ly stop to think about it we really do live like kings and queens without a doubt we are all en joying a standard of living our grandparents and great grandpa rents would have thought only the extremely wealthy could afford even i as a child considered eat ing in a restaurant even mcdo nalds a rare treat for my kids today however such outings are almost a weekly experience oh indeed if any one ever had cause for giving thanks its you and me today but you know as from the pulpit thankful as we should be to the lord for the material abundance he has generously supplied us with our material blessings should not be the cause of our greatest thanks for if it is what are we left to give thanks for should these material blessings be taken away some in markham i am sure know what that is like although most of us enjoy abundance some in our community are not so for tunate some lost jobs some were laid off some experienced sever financial set backs some had dreams come crashing down around some learned of severe illnesses some lost loved ones in death some very tragically there are others within our community and beyond our boundries who thisfall are living in extreme poverty such as those we have recently heard so much of who are living in tents because they cannot afford housing if your greatest thanks to god is for the good things we enjoy then what do these people have to give thanks for this fall oh my friends while we all need to give thanks for the little or much that we have our greatest thanks needs to be directed to something much greater some thing all of us together richand poor joyous and troubled have in common and that is the lord jesus christ our saviour this fall as always we need to give our greatest thanks to god for the gift of his son and for the forgive ness of sin the deliverance from guilt and the gift of eternal life which he offers to all who put their faith in him this is what jesus was trying to teach his disciples i believe when after a successful mission they were rejoicing over their great success their great power he interjected in luke 1020 however do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you but rejoice that your names are written in heaven my friends most of us have much materially to give thanks for this fall but all of us have an even greater reason to break forth into praise and that is for jesus christ our lord and saviour who today offers to one and all forgiveness and life ever lasting pastor allan summers merryll summers 4753579 930 amsunday school 1030 am morning worship 630 pm
