editor what we are witnessing dur ing this election is history in the making i say this because what jthe voter has this election is a very real a very distinct choice the voter can cast hisher ballot in good conscience they will not have to wonder where our party stands on any issue or on any aspect of society insofar as the provincial government is con cerned too many times in the past people have had to decide which party to vote for knowing full well that candidate or that candidates leader has a litany of broken promises to hisher certainly some promises will be kept its difficult to imagine a government in power for two years or more not doing some thing constructive jicet quite sad ly all too often when the govern ment does do something its in direct opposition to the wishes of the people with the family coalition par ty however the people have a clear and concise summary of where our party stands and what pur goals are and where our values lie for example rather than promote universal day care at a cost of 11 billion dollars annually roughly8000 per child we say the money would be better spent supporting the professional homemaker who has in the past provided this invaluable service to society receiving nothing but proportionately lesser and lesser tax breaks from the government we say the environment has be come progressively worse sutton and orillia reported taste and odor problems as a result of algae contamination of intake water into the 1960s saysmichalskiand hopkins in 1971 weve had gov- ernment studies released also in 1975 1979 and 1985 and yet exces sive algae growth as a result of phosphorous loadings into lake simcoe still continue the family coalition party saysto the voter it is the governments duty to pre serve our lakes and land for our children and for their children as surely as we put food on the table for them to eat we say that when 1985 became 1986 and 1986 became 1987 wrong didnt suddenly become right the traditional values grandma and grandpa held are still values the people of durham- york and the people of ontario hold today the family coalition party tsays bill 7 the law on sexual orientation is an insult to society and mocks the traditional family we say the government forgot ab- out the people and their values i they hold precious when they pas- sed bill 7 a short time ago j bill 7 in effect places the homosexual lifestyle on a level of 5 equality with the traditional i heterosexual one if two homoscx- ual men were to walk into a chil- drens aid society office today tand request to adopt a young j child it would be illegal for that organization to turn that couple v down for reasons of their sexual orientation i wo say wrong doesnt become right with the flipping of the calendar pages or the taking of a questionable poll this election people have a choice they can make in good i faith the fcps word is word tyou can bank on the fcp doesnt believe in spending an estimated 10000 a day on opinion polls we believe a candidate must believe what he or she says and if that individual is constantly looking over hisher shoulder at j the opinion polls then what you have in government is not a pcr- son of conviction and principal but someone much less the democratic process is cheapened as a result in the past i believe the voter has come to accept deception and the political lie as an ugly but in evitable fact of life this no longer has to be the case for the people will find the routine of campaigns that promise millions and even billions of dollars to strategically selected voter pools for the peo ple who find these tactics offen sive there is a choice they can make sept 10 for the voter who has had it with politicians who cant seem to say where they stand on an issue for fear of losing a certain percen tage of the vote there is a choice sept 10 for the people who have ever said those politicians dont rep resent me and theyre all the same there is a clear choice on this upcoming ballot for the 40 per cent of the electo rate who do not vote because they feel that by their silence they are saying theyre sick and tired of whats been going on in govern ment there is an alternative that choice that alternative is the family coalition party sincerely ken canning durhamyork in1984 hyundai made two promises we kept the first and now were keeping the second when we came
