cheapshots in this game but they didnt he said we ended up getting more penal ties than they did the refs were calling everything despite winning the score was closer than keller liked it was an upanddown game very entertaining for the fans but it wasnt the best performance ive seen he said the clippers were up 20 heading into the third period but with five minutes left in the game the score was tied at three goalie scott evans had to make a big save on a lindsay breakaway to keep the clippers from falling be hind we finally woke up after that and in the last five minutes when we decided to get serious we dominated the game keller said the clippers scored two goals to put the game away keller was pleased with the per formance of the power play which hit for three goals in the game the have had it with snow im sickof shovelling it driving in it slipping on it and generally being miserable while around it now i know there are many brave individuals who laugh in the face of old man winter by refusing to let him get them down im not one of them id much rather be golfing lush green fairways warm sun shining down bunkers full of bright white sand thats the dream that gets me through the winter blahs its a four iron fantasy shared by me and a few million others at about this time every year we long for the click of a well hit ball as it sails down the fairway and we also miss the thud of a badly hit one and the colorful explanation that inevitably follows golf the dictionary defines it as an outdoor game played with a set of clubs and a ball in which the ball is driven with the fewest possible strokes into a succession of holes well as definitions go that one is just f and d fine and dandy but it doesnt come close to describing some of the madness youre likely to find during a weekend afternoon on the links some people im convinced believe golf is a bodycontact sport these guys arc amazing they screech into the parking lot at about 100 mph windows open and stereo blasting out some van halcn to get them psyched up before they attack the course and i do mean attack with their bare chests cutoff shorts and combat boots they play golf rambostylc if you dont keep your head up while around this kind of golfer you might just lose it still bad as these guys arc theyre puppies compared to the golf snob the most despised animal to ever grace a green wrapped in enough polyester and plaid to keep herb tarlek general sales manager wkrp in tacky for the rest of his life they arrive in big cars with big golf bags and big mouths of course the golf snob is no better a golfer than the rambotypc player but ttey dont believe that- they all think theyre ben hogan sidelines by alan shackleton sports editor they assume that since they spent thousands of dollars on custom- made top of the line golf clubs with ostrich leather grips they must be good golfers the thought that some slob in jeans and a sweatshirt playing with cheap secondhand clubs he bought at a garage sale might actually be better than them is unacceptable and that friends brings us to the saddest aspect of golf the attitude that only people of a certain class or income should be playing the game one of the easiest ways to keep the riffraff out is dress codes on a number of golf courses no jeans no track pants no shorts and no running shoes are allowed which is about the entire wardrobe of most teenagers that stinks golf is a wonderful enjoyable game you can play your whole life its about being outside and hitting a small ball with a club its not a fashion show shack tracksein prosit good buddies what a week im having a special thank you goes out to the piclstickcr family your kindness was overwhelming now i know why they call stouffville the friendly town- cliff dunkeld came by the office last week and dropped off a poem hed discovered about volunteers the people who make amateur sport work id like to share it with everyone else the name of the author is unknown afany will be shocked to find when the day of judgement nears that theres a special place in heaven set aside for volunteers no eager team that needs a coach no bazaar and no bake sale there will be nothing to staple not one thing to fold or mail furnished with big recliners satin couches and foot stools where theres no committee chairmen no group leaders or car pools telephone lists will be outlawed but a finger snap will bring cool drinks and gourmet dinners and rare treats fit for a king you ask wholl serve these privileged few and work for all theyre worth why all those who reaped the benefits and not once volunteered on earth
