p4we5kenber au6usta985 a 5 weekender 2man cars needed now just over a year ago a york regional police officer investigated a silent alarm in the esna park industrial area of mar kham what he uncovered when he accosted the burglar ransacking a warehouse we prob ably never be known you see constable douglas tribbling never came back he was gunned down before his backup ar rived this tragedy might have been averted had regional government allocated addi tional funds to establish twoman patrols however hindsight wont bring back douglas tribbling but regional council has a chance to hopefully prevent such an occurrence hap pening again all councillors have to do is come to grips with the financial situation and grant the york regional police forces wish that twoman patrols not only would this move end the current worktorule campaign by the police but help ensure a safer community in which to live in metropolitan toronto where there are twoman cars during the night shift an alarm usually brings several cruisers with two men in each car instead of facing one constable as is the case in york region a thief may be dealing with 10 now were not saying that the york re gion needs a force the size of metros but surely a thief encountering two officers plus two more when the backup arrives may think twice before committing the crime it is up to the taxpayers of york region especially in this an election year to make your feelings known tell regional council in no uncertain terms that you dont mind increased taxes for the purpose of twoman patrols it will mean a safer york region for all concerned speaking out what do you think should be done with regards to ticket sales for major concerts asked at markville shopping centre and main st stbuffville gus polemi- make aisles for lining up editors mail richards says thanks to those who helped dear sir i would like to ask for the courtesy of your columns to express my thanks to certain individuals and organizations for their support concerning my recent resignation from heritage markham first i want to thank you for your fair and ample reporting of this incident i felt that it was a matter of principle and i am pleased that you appeared to have thought so too second i would like to thank the many friends and some strangers who have gone to the trouble of expressing their support in writingand verbally third i would like to thank my friends in heritage markham those are dedi cated and concerned men and women voluntarily working long hours for little public recognition and sometimes no thanks i would like your readers to join with me in expressing our approval and thanks for a difficult task being excel lently performed- and lastly i would like to thank mr graham in my view mr graham has been cast quite incorrectly as the vil lain of the piece i see mr graham as a victim of councils ineptitude as well as the stigma of lackof social conscience by his new neighbors on albert st in these circumstances he has seen fit to adopt i must assume out of good will more than half of heritage markhams recommendations his house as built bears only a passing resemblance to the application drawings submitted to and approved by council for this i think we should all be profoundly grateful i be lieve that mr graham deserves our thanks rak richards markham economistsun the
