p8 weekender july 20 1985 markham tykes in tough battle it will take at least another baseball game to decide whos the better club bolton or the markham tykes the two clubs battled in a home-and- home series last week with each one win ning in its home diamond game one in bolton went to the host 95 as the bolton pitcher scattered seven hits to pretty well shut down markhams off ence markhams biggest scoring opportunity loading the bases in the fourth inning was squandered when it failed to bring even one runner home weekender the offence that was generated came primarily from kyle moore who went 2 for 3 at the plate and scored twice tim hawco contributed a triple and two rbis back home the club put together a 15hit barrage and scored five times in the third inning en route to a 1412 victory markham also brought home four run ners in the fourth frame but nearly let the win go when bolton rallied for five runs in the seventh inning but the difference was two markham runs scored in the sixth and bolton leaving its tying run at the plate with a strikeout this time shawn mcleish carried the big bat with four hits including a triple and three rbis in four trips to the plate robert crawford pounded out a pair of hits and collected four rbis adam kerr crossed the plate three times markham pumped up by that victory then hosted leagueleading newmarket and sent it home with its second loss of the season both of them to markham the 109 final score saw newmarket jump into an early 30 lead and after four innings that had stretched to 83 but mar khams defence allowed only one run on six hits afterwards while the offence came to life the locals took advantage of newmar kets wildness with timely hitting that pro duced seven runs on four hits in the last two innings crawfords basesloaded single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth brought home the winning runs he finished up with three rbis hawco scored three times and mcleish and gord chilton twice each sports 2942200 stouffville moved on to the final team morale appeared the deciding fac tor in the last two matches against pef ferlaw the stingers looked tired after playing three games straight the twohour break the girls took before their first encounter with pefferlaw in the final may have taken some of the sting out of their cause in reflection stouffville coach ted low- ery remarked that pefferlaw rolled into the final immediately after defeating mt albert in the semifinal it was still hot from the win he said while his girls were cooling off pefferlaw scored all its runs in the first two innings stouffville responded with two in the fifth a final game was ordered since both teams at this point had lost one game apiece it proved to be a pitchers duel from the start stinger pitcher sheila fockler who alternated games with candy brown took no chances and kept her throws tight both teams fell into three upthree down ruts most of the game donna hope and lisa pollock drew first and final blood for pefferlaw in the fourth inning stouffville managed one run by janninc ferguson in the sixth we kind of had control up to the final but we knew it could go cither way said lowery when you
