monday evening on the occasion of his 90th birthday following a dinner at the deer park inn he was presented with an engraved plaque by town mayor torn wood jim thomas mervyn watts ninety years young stouffville its been several years since mervyn watts moved from stouffviue to oshawa on monday even ing he returned to town the guest of honor at a dinner at the deer park inn the occasion was his 90th birthday born at lemon ville in a blinding snowstorm july 11895 mr watts later married mabel boynton june 28 1922 they built a home on clarke street in 1929 for 40 years mrs watts operated a millinery and dress shop on main street mervyn watts was the manager of stiver bros no w stouffviue feeds for 51 years he served on village council from 1930 to 1936 a veteran of the royal air force dur- ing world war i he was later in strumental in establishing the air cadets in stouffviue under the spon sorship of the lions club he was a char ter member of the stouffviue lions and president in 194041 he was also presi dent of the stouffviue lawn bowling club and a member 17 years mr and mrs watts were both mem bers in the congregation of stouffviue united church since moving from town mr watts has resided on park road in oshawa mayor tom wood in presenting him with an engraved plaque said mr watts had contributed much to the betterment of the community contributions that should not be forgotten on behalf of the town and council he extended congra tulations around town provincial veterinarian dr terry oconnor coowner in the firm of oconnor veterinary services rr 4 stouffviue has accepted a position of re gional veterinarian with the province of ontario dr oconnor works out of an office in newmarket with jurisdiction over an area that extends from milton on the west newcastle
