ville thursday following the passing of harold lewis april s in scarborough centenary hospital he was 76 mr lewis spent many months in hos pital following his collapse at the stouff- ville post office in november 1983 he was able to be home for a time but was readmitted to hospital in january when his condition worsened harold lewis was born at altona the son of jonas and pearl yake lewis he attended altona public school and stouffville continuation school mr lewis served overseas as an in structor with the royal canadian ordi nance corps from 1940 through to his discharge in late 1945 he assisted with construction work on the site of the veterans memorial hall ninth line north mr lewis was an employee on the staff of mustons greenhouses ninth line south and became expert at the arranging of flowers he also worked for the av roe firm at malton and did carpentry around town with the late fred jackson prior to retirement he drove a school bus for three years mr and mrs lewis the former ivy saunders were married 55 years ago mrs lewis survives along with a son gary mount albert a daughter karen fctouffville a sister eldene toronto six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren he was predeceased by a son ian and a brother dalton spring interment will be made at stouffville cemetery town of whitchurchstouffville proclamation daylight saving time pursuant to a received by the town of whitchurchstouffville april 9 it was written by hazel hodsonwalker a king township school trustee on the york region board of education it reads dear sir many children from the york region board of education had the unique and ex citing opportunity to attend school at the museum as a trustee on the board i am delighted with the program supported so ably by the staff of the museum whom i found to be informed helpful and dedi cated i am alsoa parent of a daughter who was lucky enough to participate in this en riching activity she was involved in cook ing and baking country dancing weaving and sewing to mention but a few compo nents of the three days the children dres sed pioneer style and learned so much ab out those days in a hands on fashion this was real involvement of our teaching staff and of the staff of the museum mary hop kins was charmingand gave readily of her time and expertise i wholeheartedly endorse and support these kinds of programs and hope and trust they will continue to flourish and grow in the future my thanks to the council late william willcocks world war ii veteran stouffville william bill willcocks was a veteran of world war ii he saw overseas duty with the royal canadian engineers in the years that followed he never relinquished his interest in veterans activities he was a member of the stouffville legion branch 459 and attended meetings regularly he also participated in re membrance day services both at the hall and cenotaph in the town square these and other memories were recalledat a legion service in the oneill funeral home april 8 following mr willcocks passing april 6 in soar- borough centenary hospital he was 73 bill willcocks was born at petrolia ont son of solomon and maude alice willcocks following marriage he and wife mildred lived in toronto then took up residence near locust hill and later musselmans lake before moving to their home at 15 montreal street stouffville 15 years ago after the wav mr willcocks worked for the firm of canada building materials and later markham sand and gravel hed been retired eleven years mr willcocks enjoyed working with wood a hob by that kept him busy during his retirement years samples of his handiwork are visible throughout their home surviving besides his wife the former mildred soundy are twin daughters joanne harnett and maureen boadway both of stouffville and two fos ter daughters brenda and susan mattinson of toronto there are seven grandchildren mr will cocks is also survived by two brothers raymond of sutton and thomas of pef ferlaw he april 3qs5 telephone 7318825 late lloyd wagg businessman news of the recent death of lloyd burton wagg march 21 was received with regret by many in the good wood community mr wagg passed away at the king nursing home in bolton he had suffered from alzheim- ers disease several years lloyd was born in 1913 at goodwood son of the late daniel and edith wagg he attended public school in goodwood and secondary school at stouffville and ux- bridge following graduation from peterborough normal school he entered the teaching profession and held positions in schools at blairbampton goodwood uxbridge and port credit a career that spanned 20 years in 1953 he purchased blains hardware in bramp ton and operated the busi ness there until 1969 when he sold out to son lewis mr wagg served on the steering committee that led to the formation of home hardware stores in 1964 he was the founding director and chairman of the board from 1964 to 1969 at which time he purchased a hard ware business in lindsay he operated it until his re tirement in 1979 mr wagg was identified with the presbyterian church in brampton and lindsay he served as an elder and on the board of managers in 1935 he married lorna fern naylor and to them were born two children lewis and linda mrs wil liam sheppard following the death of his first wife in 1975 he married the former ivy cook of scar borough who survives tion 210 paragraph 28 authorizes the council of a municipality to pass a bylaw to prescribe the times during which fires may be set in the open air and the precautions to be observed by persons setting out fires now therefore the council of the corporation of the township of uxbridge enacts as a bylaw as follows 1 no person shall set a fire in the open air in the township of uxbridge before the hour of 6 oclock in the forenoon in any day and after the hour of 8 oclock in the afternoon in any day 2 no person shall set a fire in the open air in the township of uxbridge until he or she has notified the fire chief or deputy fire chief of the township of uxbridge or his or their designee of his or her intention so to do stating in such notfication the following a the day and hour when the fire is to be set b the lot concession and nearest access road to where the fire is to be set c the name of at least one adult other than the applicant who will be in attendance at the scene of the fire until the fire has been completely extinguished d the means of extinguishing the fire e the telephone number of the responding fire department 3 all persons setting a fire in the open air in the township of uxbridge a shall be responsible for any damage to property occasioned by said fire and b shall be liable for the cost of any fire fighting equipment and personnel called in to extinguish said fire and also c shall adhere to the guidelines for open burning set out in schedule a attached hereto 4 no person setting a fire in the open air may leave the location of the fire until such fire is extinguished 5 a fire in the open air may be set by a social organization service club or other charitable organization after dusk in a recreational area provided that prior written approval has been obtained from the fire chief or deputy fire chief 6 no person shall set a fire in the open air for the burning of grass and no leaves may be burned on the paved portion of any highway nor on any sidewalk 7 all fires set for camping and cooking purposes shall be at least 15 metres from any building or structure or overhead wires and have the area surrounding them within a 75 metre radius cleared of all flammable vegetation and other flammable materials 8 notwithstanding the provisions of this bylaw fires may be set in properly constructed closedin incinerators barbecue units and for cooking purposes when placed in a safe and proper clearing 9 every person convicted of a breach of any provision of this bylaw shall be guilty of an offence aid shall be liable to a fine of not more than one thousand 100000 dollars for each offence exclusive of costs schedule a to bylaw no 8344 guidelines for open burning in order to keep open burning from creating problems the following guidelines shall be adhered to 1 open burning must not create any of the conditions listed below a cause smoke or fire damage to property b a decrease in visibility on any highway or travelled road c rapid spread of fire through grass or bush area 2 open burning shall be conducted in accordance with the safety measures required by the fire and police services and the ministry of natural resources and other regulatory bodies having jurisdic tion 3 all open fires shall be attended at all times and the local fire department number posted near your phone in advance 4 no open fires are to be located near any building unless proper ly cut fire breaks have been cut around said buildings 5 no fire is to be started on days of adverse weather conditions such as rain fog or other conditions that prevent the ready disper sion of smoke 6 material which include excessive quantities of petroleum pro ducts plastics rubber or other materials that create excessive smoke or excessive odour shall
