appeared in the nov 2 issue of the tribune i feel as chairman of the life at its best weekend some clarification is needed first i do not be lieve we need apolo gize for denomma- tionalism each of us approaches god in his her own way some emphasize different aspects of the faith and diffe rent understandings of our faith ah of us as christians seek our lord jesus as he calls us while it is true that denommationalism can be very divisive and hurtful a more enlightened view is that we have much to learn from each other while perso nally i prefer to work out my christ ianity within the anglican commun ion i know i have much to learn from the missionary church the pre sbyterian church the pentccostals the roman catho lies the united church and so on the weekend we re cently held symbol ized our love con cern and respect for each other having an evangelist with a direct denomina tion anglican affi liation caused arlene prentice some problems why surely every evangelist comes out of some tradi tion within christ ianity yes marney is an anglican bill graham is a bap tist jesus was a jew and other ex amples could be cited but surely marney did not pre sent anglican ism billy graham does not present baptists they appeal to all people one of the reasons marney was chosen was in fact his de monstrated cross denominational appeal the second issue honor grads friday night stouffville stouffville dist secondary school will hold its annual commencement exercises friday evening nov 11 at 8 p m a recptio will follow the cere mony michael muir for mer principal at s d s s and now principal at don head secondary school richmond hill will address the graduates many students will be honored for academic excell ence including ontario scholar michael ku michaels grade 13 average was 978 per cent second highest in york re gion commencement arrangements are in charge of staff teacher john mar shall arlene raises is more critical where in holy scrip ture does it say charity begins at home i read for god so loved the world as christians we have a responsibility to be concerned for people in whitch- urchstouffville in ontario in canada and around the world the marvel lous response of this town to our deacon al fund has enabled us to clothe and feed the poor here and in toronto howevei the 1400 raised through offerings on that weekend goes to provide trans portation and mate rials for marney and his team so that they might accept invitations to preach in predomi nately non- christian third world countries the churches there want to have him but cannot afford to bring him so the money is not directed at sup porting little known programs over seas as arlene suggests but simp ly to provide oppor tunities for the gos pel to be preached i might add that in reality the third worlds needs far out weigh our own problems sincerely philip poole chairman life at its best weekend wednesday november 9 1983 sa3 x we treat our customers as we would like to be treated fruit
