busi ness community our town government and our concerned citizens groups and individuals as one our town had turned out the unwanted guest york sanitation has since come bounding back expecting to have our town wel come them volun tarily the alarm should be j in each resi dents mind not that york sanitation is trying a new ploy but that our mayor and council are biting only recently assur ances were being given both publically and pri vately by our candi- i dates for council that they were resolute to have this dump closed as quickly as possible the ministrys date wasjune 1983 is there no accounta bility on the part of whitchurchstouffville council is there no honoring ones word contrary to commit ments made our rep resentatives are now in the process of negotiat ing away our towns hope for the future by entering into a deal with york sanitation turning their backs on the close the dump now principle they publicly en dorsed our mayor and council are negotiat ing to accept 750000 tonnes more waste and three years of an un capped dump threaten ing our towns water supply the greatest benefit from the deal is financial to york sanitation the site monitoring program offered by york is one that should be required by the environment ministry in any case deal or not the costs are all costs to us the residents uncertainty anxiety- lost business lostprop- erty values and threatened health surely our council does not feel ithas a mandate from its citizens to compromise their future ask us we the people of this town if we would agree to a deal allowing three more years of dumping and the answer would be heard all the way to queens park our council can best serve the people by using its authority and re sources in pursuing the ministry of the en vironments committ about now picking up va rious lastminute de corations and trinkets to make their places seem a bit more christ maslike but for jim white at james white florists- stouffville- gormley road no such eleventhhour flurry is necessary according to jim its christmas 12 months of the year here here of course is his 38000 square feet of greenhouse space where he tends and grows and sometimes even baby sits his magnificent poinset- tias lined up row on row on the long tables where they reach for the endless flow of light in a summerlike atmosphere and when jim white says babysit he means it literally his marjo named after daughters margaret and joan an all- canadian poinsettia plant which he de veloped in 1978 and put on the market a year later needs around- theclock attention during its lengthy root ing period and hes there to make sure this happens in the business for 30 years his father was in it for 65 jim developed his new plant after ex- perimenting with hundreds and hun- dreds for a year re producing and repro- ducing until he achieved what he wanted he obviously achieved what other- people wanted too once on the market flowerbuyers insisted on his new plant with its darker and deeper shade of red he says no one realizes the depth of color until theyre put together he said referring to mrjo and other red poinsettia almost orange by comparison no one that is other than
