a4 the tribune wednesday january 13 1ss2 dear editor r ever since i moved to- the whit- chufchstouf f ville area ive been reading and bearing about the proposed dulverton development and how it will represent a cureall for the communitys ills its now on the verge of becoming a reality but what about those of us and we may even be in the majority who dont want 500 more homes here what about those of us who like the town the way it is what about those of us who moved here in the first place because we wanted to get away from the rat race dont we count perhaps its now too late and maybe weve been silent too long but progress in my opinion doesnt have to mean on going buildup of homes it can take the form of improving whats already here- sincerely margaret todde north street stouffville town roadmen risers r dear editor j im not a chronic complainer i dont ordinarily beef to the media but on this oc casion im breaking this rule my concern relates to the roadsanding policy in stouffville has it occurred to the road department staff that many stouffville to toronto commuters leave town before 7 am cannot a night staff be brought in when repeated radio warnings tell of ice storms heading our way is it not possible to have the sanders out by at least 5 am instead of eight or nine when most incity workers have already left on a couplef oc casions our street has been a veritable skating rink at 6 am and yet the main roads are fine hazardous con ditions may occur only a halfdozen times each winter in my opinion the roaddepartment should arrange its work schedule to meet such emergencies and not carry on like its the middle of july im not asking town employees to work roundtheclock what im suggesting is that they work when theres work to be done that can be 5 am or s pm the weatherman pays no union dues- sincerely jacob milne rupert avenue stouffville 4w 7895 a friend to all dear mr thomas i appreciated very much irene- taylors comments concerning the lady margaret heard at the municipal off ice friendliness is always ap- predated particularly when it involves people who are complete strangers in this regard id like to pass on a compliment of my own and for much the same reason the individual who lights up ft my lif e4ls i bertha o slaughter r cashierat the stouffville a p if anyone canv turn a frown upside downits bertha 4iv and when 1 read your roaming around column concerning visits to the various senior citizens homes i wasnt surprised that berthas name headed the list shes that kind of person sincerely agenes cameron rr stouffville i v i better times ahead more support for mayor dear editor the letter written by jim doran in the dec 31 edition under the heading impressed plus your editorial in the same issue relating to the leadership provided by mayor eldred king prompted me to respond like mr doran i didnt support mayor king at the last election in fact i didnt support anyone i didnt i even vote something of which im not very proud regardless l didnt feel mr stone- house had sufficient experience and i wasnt impressed with the negativism displayed by mr king in recent months however i perceive a change in our mayor hes now gungho for getting things done and this attitude is showing in several major ac complishments like your editorial said i see better times ahead for whitchurch stouffville in 1982 thanks to mayor kings positive ap proach to town problems sincerely dr calvin gregory r r 3 newmarket thankyoii dear jim during the past year t the whitchurch horse owners association whoa has been successful in a number of endeavors for example road signs warning motorists of horses and riders have been erected at various locations in the vivian forest area with other districts being con sidered on behalf of the association i wish to thank the mayor and members of council for their cooperation the mapping of riding trails is to be undertaken in 1982 for this project to be suc cessful we require information from owners and riders in areas other than those adjacent to vivian forest for this reason we are requesting your attenadance at the associations second annual meeting mori jan 23 at 8 pm in the ballantrae community centre should post ponement because of bad weather be necessary the alternate date is mon feb 22 at the same location sincerely marian dissette springlands farm rr 4 stouffville with best dear jim super hockey stars like wayne gretzky mike bossy and guy lafleur receive a lot of ink in the daily media and rightly so theyre great hockey players however theaci complishmiints of our own kcithacton must rank up there with the best in only his second full season with mon treal canadians he currently leads the team in goals and points and stands tenth in the entire league this in my opinion is- a remarkable feat the town has just cause to feel proud sincerely bryan martin rr 3 stouffville sunday brunch 795 per person served 11 30 am to 230 pm includes hot cold entrees salad
