a4 the tribune thursday december 31 181 editors mail buildup needed claims reader dear mr thomas it would appear from the dec 23 issue of your newspaper that the much- discussed dulverton development is on the verge of going ahead i hope so for without it stouffville will be denied many of the services we so badly need including an eastwest road between the ninth line and hwy 47 to members of council and plan ning board my congratulations for your longsuffering patience in dealing with this project to have this buildup finally come on stream is a feather in your caps sincerelv delkirby elm road stouffville always friendly lady lights up her lif e dear jim visiting the municipal office isnt always a pleasant ex perience paying my taxes dog licence etc but any grievance i may have in this connection is quickly dispelled by the lady just inside the door because i feel people should know about such persons im asking your paper to pass on my feelings this staff employee is margaret heard i dont know her per sonally but her nameplates on the counter its a pleasure to meet her shes always the same ex tremely friendly with a pleasant smile its almost worth the amount of my tax instalment just to be waited on by someone like her she lights up my life till the next time the council knew what it was doing when they hired this lovely lady if there were a few million more it would be a much nicer world sincerely mrs irene taylor main street stouffville must cooperate questions hardline dear mr thomas the story related to the delegations trip to queens park and subsequent discussions with environment minister keith norton appeared very com plete im wondering however if the apparent hard line taken by mayor eldred king was the correct approach under the cir cumstances mr norton being human may well act against the municipalitys interests and wishes if nothing more than to get even while environment generally may be a bungled mess the situation cannot be laid entirely at mr nortons doorstep the mess has been building up for years while i readily appreciate the delegations concern they speak for all of us cooperation rather than confrontation would in my opinion be the best route to follow sincerely angus kerr rr2 stouffville plant subsidy the timing was right dear mr thomas councillor jim sanders response to mpp bill hodgsons announcement of a 486000 grant to the stouffville sewage plant bewildered me talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth in my opinion it would have served mr san ders right if mr hodgson had withdrawn the subsidy right after he announced it sure the york north member may have taken advantage of a situation but why not at leas he had several of the council present plus the press to make the an nouncement to much better than a letter id say jim sanders has been around politics long enough to know one acts when the situation presents itself un doubtedly if hed been in bill hodgsons shoes hed have done the same its a practice called political ex pediency sincerely dr calvin gregory rr3 newmarket advantage dear mr thomas i appreciate jim sanders column it tends to make politics more personal the only problem as i see it is the fact it gives councillor san ders an advantage when another election rolls around the exposure is sure to prove a benefit even though on oc casions his points of view may be criticized sincerely glenn ferguson rr2 stouffville library show toys enjoyed dear editor 1 found mr irvings column on the toy show presently at the whit church stouffville library very disturbing to say the least it was not only bis negative description of the many wonderful toys but his assumption that our children were too sophisticated to enjoy them which greatly annoyed me as a parent over three hundred and fifty children at tended this show my own included for three days i watched them learn from paul simp son as well as enjoy his marvelous toys to assume the children of today are unable to appreciate the simple things of life is very wrong indeed i called the tribune many times in the hope of inviting mr irving to come and observe the sheer joy of the many local children their happy noise and laughter filled not only the library but our hearts for hours in that time the toys were well used and some were even broken paul was in no way disturbed by this as he clearly believes the purpose of his toys is to be played with and played with they were believe me perhaps had mr irving been able to join in the merry bedlam his opinion may well have changed i can only hope so for the sake of the children he misinterpreted and the kind gentle toymaker whos work he mijudged yes jim irving there is a santa claus sincerely carolyn m1ddleton rr2 stouffville thanks dear sir just a note tc say how much we ap preciated the very fine article which you gave us in your issue of nov 19 front page second section it was indeed very accurate and well written and we are indebted to you for this very timely coverage please accept our thanks for higuiswing this news item in such a fine way many thanks and best wishes for the holiday season lc cullen president cullen gardens and miniature village rr2 whitby praise for mayor impressed dear editor although the way one votes is his own business i dont mind admitting that i didnt support eldred king in the election of 1980 to me he appeared to be too negative in his thinking anti- progress antibusiness antigrowth anti- recreation just about antieverything he didnt impress me at all however my opinion of the same mr king has changed dramatically in the past few months he seems to be working in the best interests of the entire town in fact hes shouldered a greater responsibility than should be expected of any politician on the basis of what ive observed and read if an election was called tomorrow id support mayor king one hundred per cent hes become a real leader for whitchurch stouffville addressing himself to the problems at hand and seeking solutions wherever possible im now very impressed sincerely jim doran rr3 stouffville part skinned fully cooked smoked ham butt portion m grade a frozen young ducks 46 lb size grade a frozen
