stouffville with the start of the soccer season only two days away one cannot help but wonder what sort of season it is going to be particularly so for the newcomers with the inclusion of eight mite teams within the club catering for s to 7 year olds there are probably many parents who are just a little worried as to how their pride and joy will react to the opinions and censures of his teammates the vociferous crowds parents are notoriously partisan and noisy and all the other things that combine to put undue pressure on these little newcomers to the field of competitive sport therefore it is felt that an open letter on behalf of all parents to the whitchurch stouffviue soccer club would be in order it is as follows dear coach tomorrow morning my son starts soccer hes going to step out on the field- and a great adventure that will probably include joys and disappointments begins so i wish you to take him by his young hand and teach him the things he will have io know teach him to respect the referee and that his judgement is final teach him not to hate his competitors but to ad mire their skill teach him it is just as important to be a playmaker and get an assist as it is to score a goal teach him to play as part of a team and never to be selfish teach him to never blame his goalkeeper when a goal is scored against him because five mistakes were made before the ball got to the goalie teach him that winning is not everything but that trying to win is teach him that it is far more honorable to lose than to cheat teach him to be competitive teach him to close his ears to the howling mob and to stand up for himself if he thinks he is right teach him gently but dont coddle him because only the test of fire makes fine steel this is a big order coach and i place my son in your hands see what you can do for him he is such a nice little fellow signed ap prehensive parent whitchurchhighlands team ace vault susan ward fourth- in beam and deena jones fourth in vault
