home at mount zion sunday they were joined by over 375 friends and relatives for the occasion including two of their wedding attendants sadie johnson and doris mclean edschroeter byedschroeter mt zion alma and lome jones agree their golden wedding anniversary celebration was almost as exciting as their wedding day 50 years ago their bridesmaid sadie johnson then miss evans and their flower girl doris mclean formerly miss baker joined over 375 friends and relatives at their home south of balsam for the occasion just a few days before the real event congratulations both written and delivered in person came from mp scott fennell mpp wm newman and pickering mayor jack anderson mr jones was born in 1905 at their present home the son of bert and florence jones alma was born in 1907 the daughter of morg and flfrabeth evans on a farm one mile east of claremonl while mrs jones attended public school at cedar creek lome was at mount zion however they both attended high school in claremont and this was where they met on june 29 1929 they were married by rev hr stevens of the claremont baptist church at almas home in claremont later they came to live on the farm where they have resided ever since lome still farms getting up at six in the morning and working a full day helping son murray with the dairy operation both are proud of their heritage cedar lane is a century farm homesteaded in 1842 by lomes great grand father joseph jones the sixth family generation is living there now one of their most prized anniversary gifts is a portrait of their farmhouse the children had commissioned mr jones also enjoys writing five years ago be completed the task of assembling the entire history of his family it took him several years to accomplish it hes also treasurer of the mount zion community centre active in the area alma hasnt missed a meeting of the mount zion ucw in the last ten years she also belongs to another ladies church group at mount zion which she helped organize both are active members in the mount zion congregation the couple is modest in their appraisal of their generosity to others but they frequently visit ill or elderly members of the community alma sup plies homemade baked goods or crocheted items and quilts lome and alma enjoy the company of neighbors and their close association with the claremont golden age club in fifty years little has changed they are still as happy as ever and very proud of their family that includes grant and shirley jones murray and evelyn- jones ronald and donna jones and ken and doreen stickwood they have ten
