i lived through the elvis era and enjoyed it most rock groups amateur or professional are terrible its noise noise noise so earsplitting in in tensity my head takes off through the ceiling every time im subjected to it for k this reason i i probably sounded less than enthusiastic when david payne of the l sdss staff called thursday and invited me to attend a grade 8 dance friday featuring a band called mirage about the only thing that prompted an affirmative reply jvas the fact their leader is a teacher at whitchurchhighlands school and the members are former students so i went quite a surprise instead of a series of instrumental blasts that could be heard on harold avenue the sound was quite subdued and so were the performers not nine longhaired scruffs like i had envisioned but eight guys and a girl that would make any parent proud we love what were doing said 16 year old steve heyd one of two vocalists in the band its amazing how we stay together we work as a unit and are all good friends it all started back at seriously with mr burrows still attoe helm hes our co ordinator and general nice guy said steve others includeeric winter prestons lake drums rob krause bethesda road drums and backup soloist dan popovich bloomington trombone lynda addison fifth line vocalist rich bojahra wesley corners keyboard scott campbell st johns sideroad lead guitar whitchurch highlands and ken vanderkleyn bob burrows of mt fifth line bass guitar albert a teacher there saw definite possibilities in some of the pupils musical skills and put the group together the kids have since graduated but still come back once a week to practice since i september theyve been taking their newfound fame lynda addison rr 4 stouffville is a vocalist with a local rock group called mirage the band played at an sdss grade 8 dance friday mr burrows is a keyboard artist and vocalist hillary richardson is in charge of the pa i some of the band members have their own instruments but several pieces are on rental from cosmo music in rich mond hill whatever fee they receive goes to cover this cost the stouffville students loved them with the girls paying special attention to drummer rob krause hes a dreamboat said a blonde thirteen year old steve heyd admits robs quite an attraction thats why we have two drummers in case rob gets carried away and doesnt come back he joked members ages excluding mr burrows range from 14to 16 its the first time mirage has appeared at stouffville high and from comments heard theyre almost certain to be welcomed back theyre a lot better than some of the highpriced professionals weve had here commented one of the staff chaperones i liked what i saw and enjoyed what i heard and for a dancer with two left feet raised on guy lombardo thats a score
