a wealth of local talent was revealed sunday when claremont held its annual christmas variety show in the community hau two of the participants were rachel mooney on violin and lead singerguitarist ray woolhead the program was sponsored by the claremont lions club christmas concert christmas eve a wealth of talent byedschroeter claremont the spirit of christmas descended on claremont sunday as about 200 adults and children crowded into the com munity hall for the annual claremont lions christmas concert the wit and charm of emcee earle pilkey governor of the regions 37 lion clubs and claremont resident kept everyone entertained and the show running smoothly many strong per formances proved claremont is loaded with talented singers and dancers opened with a nursery rhyme recited by donna carruthers the concert got off to a good start with rachel mooney playing the violin- karen carson tap- danced her way into everyones hearts along with modern jazz dancers courtney and kristin graham singers richard harper rosemary timms karen carson and the duet of darlene redshaw and dianne beelby delighted the large audience other acts included the claremont public school choir the country rock group the woolhead brothers consisting of lee steve ray and terry brougham songwriter rick johnson and country and western group buster rockin chair band composed of buster fykes ron hodgson and brian towner the claremont lionettes performed a humorous excerpt from a charlie brown christmas under the urging of mr pilkey chorister aldine evans led the group in two christmas carols they were jolly old st nicholas and rudoph the rednosed reindeer olive vine 81 years old won the door prize for the oldest person present at the concert while alvin and fern redshaw of port perry were awarded a box of chocolates for being the couple who came the farthest this years santa claus was an unrecognizable carl young frank hill was mike the clown church service by mildred mctaggart greenwood on christmas eve the congregations of mt zion united church and greenwood united church will join in a com bined service at 11 pm at greenwood sunday morning service dec 24 is at 945 am hwy
