demolished on airport property machines worth 175000 had knocked it down in seven minutes sifting through the debris we discovered two diaries they contained records of a previous owner a gentleman by the name of vanzant one of the diaries was written on a piece of tin another on a board the tin notations were as follows the first swallow came may 1 1937 the dersey heifer to bull may 6 1933 april 3 1937 bought the barney horse april 28 1939 bought the black mare april 4 seen a pluver march 6 1940 got white cow off lunau our interest deepened the lunau mentioned was the father of john lunau curator of the markham museum the diary written on a board was more historic it read first robin march 28 1896 first robin march 17 1897 first robin march 16 1898 first robin march 20 1900 got coulter ploughshare 10 cents shoes set on horse 65 cents this was a man who no doubt was one of markhams most ardent birdwatchers oak walnut hickory and maple trees have been left and will continue to testify to his love of nature thanks dear mr thomas through the tribune we wish to thank mrs ennis her helpers and the community centre board at ballantrae for their assistance in organizing and holding recent teen dances they were lots of fun and we hope they can be held again sincerely the kids years after this land was expropriated for an airport an enquiry is still underway to determine if the country needs it did this man build this barn and then sit down and ask his family and neighbors if he needed it not very likely the recorded items really spurred our imagination like how many more records were buried in the debris did the black mare ever get the colic did the dersey heifer become pregnant when did the first robin return in 1899 how did the white cow do that was purchased from lunau all is now quiet the highpriced machinery has left the scene having done its level best descendants of those 1898 robins can be observed making their way south eighty years have not changed their ap pearance and habits we felt as if we had spent an afternoon with mr vanzant it was a pleasure is dancing a sin dear editor 1 hope you wont allow your newspaper to be used as a sounding board on this issue but i feel the recent letter from doris ratcliff deserves a reply mrs ratcliff seems to look on dancing as some kind of pagan ritual in fact if i read her correctly she feels no one can honestly claim to be a christian and participate in such forms of entertainment i resect that kind of sweeping condemnation of people i know many young people included who attend public dances yet still walk as straight and narrow a path as she and her friends will tread dancing is fun like skiing golfing and bowling surely mrs ratcliff doesnt con demn these too and what about different kinds of dancing is the highland fling okay what about ballet dancing or tap dancing or is it that people touch that automatically con demns them to hell and by the way mrs ratcliff theres a hymn we often sing in our church called lord of the dance should it be banned also or are we who sing it non- christian also in my opinion its this kind of straight- laced christianity that is turning folks away from church lorne peters perm fever catch it at the hair design place wash wear 30 perms body perms 45 reg 35 25 00 we carry dermetics cosmetics call miss hilary for more information 6403553 a free
