the tribune thursday november 23i ims 11 rookie rider andrew graham rodeo steers tamed by boy by keith boteoder riding in a rodeo is supposed to be a demanding challenging sport that requires a lot of time effort and ex perience if one is to be successful however andrew- graham of glad park ave in stouffville has shot that theory all to pieces andrew just com pleted his first year in the ontario rodeo association riding junior steers and his ac complishment is quite amazing riding in five of the eight shows that had junior steers andrew 15 finished fourth overall defeating competitors that had two or three more years experience than he did what made his feat even more in credible was that he didnt place until the fourth show a third and the last one in uxbridge where he got a fourth for his efforts an drew made 5725 in prize money as he explained the amount of money won determines the final platings its better to do well in a big meet with a lot of competitors because you get more prize money than if you place in a small show andrew became interested in steer riding through his older brother rie ronnie took me to a few meets he was riding in and i saw the steer riding and thought stomped id like to give it a try hat anc having never ridden nor been close to a steer before andrew admitted i was a little nervous ani scared but after a while i got a little con fidence at it and was ok the closest he came to an injury was when a particularly mean steer kept trying to knock him off while in the chute the steer jamed andrews leg up against the fencing and when the ride started he was quickly bucked off suffering a few bruises to his legs and ribs but the worst part was that darn steer all over my andrew said with a smile andrews inex perience cost him dearly in the finals at the cne coliseum a two day event the first day saw andrew place fourth but on the second ride he was disqualified for placing his free hand on the steer the steer however hit the gate coming out and if andrew would haw told the judges that he probably would have had a reride he shrugged off his misfortune saying i just didnt know enough to tell the judges next time i will commenting that the hardest part was to get it all together andrew accounts for his success because ive always been athletically inclined and i just took it easy tried not to get tense xmas bargains large pe4emevned
