cemetery markham markham this community lost one of its most active sports organizers oct 18 with the passing of stanley grant pringle 83 peter street markham born in a small house on albert street aug 18 1909 the son of william and laura elizabeth pringle stan grew up in markham and spent all his life there he received his schooling in the village attending at franklin street and old markham high as a boy he was active in the methodist and later the united church one of his tasks as a lad was to pump the big organ during choir practices mr pringle continued his connections with the church fortysix years ago stan pringle married marjorie poulton they lived at several locations in the village before building their present home in 1955 before the war mr pringle worked for the brokerage firm of brouse and mitchell but the 1929 stock market crash ended this he worked as a druggists assistant first for aj woods and later george greer during the war he worked at a munitions plant in ajax mr pringle retired recently having achieved the position of parts manager for several markham car dealer ships including fred hamilton and son conlin motors and markham chrysler dodge however mr pringle was better known for his outstanding contribution to sports in the community in 1932 he founded the markham minor hockey association was a coach referee and a member of the executive he retired from the organization in 1953 according to his son grant mr pringle was sportsminded all his life stan pringle had many personal triumphs in his sports career he played for a junior oha club and could have turned pro in the ls30s he led a down and out locusthill hockey team to the cham pionship later in the 1950s he led markham to the junior ontario baseball association championship he was active in the markham unionville lions club serving as chairman of the com mittee for sports events he organized boys and girls baseball leagues and initiated the markham township track and field day mr pringle is sur vived by his wife mar jorie a son grant a daughter patricia sisters elsie margaret and grace and one brother frank services were con ducted oct 21 by rev donald parr from the shantz and rev leonard oneil she passed away in her 82nd year at scarborough centenary hospital born in uxbridge june 10 1897 the daughter of david and elizabeth dalton she spent her childhood days there when she married the late arthur holden in 1917 she moved with him to a farm on the west side of ninth line south stouffville they moved later to mill street in 1934 they took up residence in markham as a housewife and mother of five children she enjoyed housework very much including sewing she also found time to be active in the markham missionary church later she joined the markham good neighbors club however her greatest love was music she was fond of playing the piano when she moved to parkview home in stouffville she often entertained them with her talents surviving mrs holden are sons lloyd victor and carl a daughter eileen mrs ken stiver brothers lome delbert and bruce dalton and a sister mrs rhea watson she was predeceased by a son fred and a brother harold dalton pall
